WLRC operates an Intermediate Care Facility and a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility and is excited to build our team of CNAs! WLRC has adopted the Greenhouse model of care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:* The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

Complete delegated and assigned nursing tasks in compliance with the CNA policy.

  • Teach, assist, and monitor personal care, recreation, leisure, and community inclusion skills through formal and informal interactions to encourage resident growth and independence.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention, personal physical care, and activities of daily living for people with multiple and severe disabilities while documenting all care provided.
  • Encourage attitudes and behaviors in residents that enhance community inclusion.
  • Acts as an advocate for disabled individuals in communicating their needs, self-expression, and goals.
  • Ensure proper infection control procedures are observed at all times.
  • Verbally interact with residents in a caregiver role, motivate them to be independent, be sensitive to moods and memory problems, and communicate as instructed with specialized techniques with the elderly.
  • Participates in treatment team meetings and shift change reports.
  • Enters, records, and maintains information in written or electronic form.
  • Handles complaints, settles disputes, resolves grievances and conflicts, or otherwise supports residents who reside together to resolve these issues and disputes.
  • Escorts residents to out-of-facility appointments, both locally and out of town, driving the van/bus. Lift empty wheelchairs for storage/transport. Transfer residents from vehicle to building using hydraulic lift operations.
  • Assist providers and nursing staff with exams if necessary.
  • Provides intermittent direct observation of individuals at significant risk of self-injurious behavior and is required to provide complete attention, intervention, and redirection at any moment per the outlined plan in the Positive Behavior Support Plan.
  • Measure and document height, weight, intake and output, vital signs, blood pressure, and finger stick blood sugar. Observe, report, and record signs, symptoms, and changes from baseline data established by the licensed nurse. Keep the resident's living area tidy and clean.
  • Apply prescribed safety devices to residents' environment (i.e., side rails, braces, splints).
  • Respond in an emergency and perform CPR, evacuate residents in a fire emergency, perform Heimlich Maneuver and basic first aid until the charge nurse arrives.
  • Cook and prepare meals and snacks as needed. Assist residents with eating, including tray setup, spoon-feeding, verbal cues, passing between meal nourishments, and utilizing specialized eating techniques, if indicated, as well as assisting with facial and hand cleanup after meals.
  • Ability to lift heavy items.
  • Other duties as assigned and within the scope of practice.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

Ability to teach residents in formal and informal settings.

  • Effectively and accurately communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of resident protocols and interventions of therapy.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and management of aggressive behaviors.
  • Knowledge of recreation and social programming.
  • Knowledge of motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of ethics and how to maintain professional boundaries and how to interact positively with people with multiple and severe disabilities, co-workers, supervisors, families, and the public.
  • Skills in using a computer and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Maintain emotional control in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of diseases, mental illnesses, and disabilities of the elderly and people with developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures such as BLS, First Aid, and MANDT.
  • Ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner with residents, staff, families, guardians, and the public.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and simple use of nursing equipment (O2, prosthetics, etc.).
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience Substitution:*
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Human Services)

OR
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Healthcare)
Experience:
No prior experience required
OR
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) license valid in the State of Wyoming

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to:*

  • Safely move (twisting, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
  • Ability to see and hear sufficiently to monitor sounds, noises, locations of clients, etc. in order to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents.
  • Ability to intervene and provide support and re-direction during resident behavior episodes.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress situation if necessary.

  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
