Qualifications & Education:

o High School Diploma or GED required

o New students are welcome to apply

o Certified Nurse Aide Certification through successful completion of an approved program (if applicable).

o One year-full time experience in personal care or an institutional setting, such as a hospital or nursing home, or one-year full-time experience with direct client care in a home care agency setting (preferred).

o Ability to read, write, follow instructions and complete training or pass competency assessment, as appropriate, for understanding needs of populations served.

o Evidence of sympathetic attitude toward elderly & pediatric clients

o Evidence of maturity and ability to deal effectively with job demands

o Good verbal communications skills required.

o Ability to work closely supervised to ensure competence in providing client care.

o Must have a criminal history check conducted prior to being offered a position with the agency

Responsibilities:

o Observe the client’s general physical, emotional and mental condition and report all changes to RN

o Provide personal hygiene assistance

o Ensure clients take prescribed medication

o Assist clients with ambulation

o Handle emergencies in the home and infection control

o Assist with personal care and hygiene, plan and prepare meals

o Complete client’s shopping or accompany them to successfully do so

o Perform light housekeeping duties and report any unusual incidents

o Act quickly and responsibly in cases of emergency

o Attend (8) hours of personal care oriented in services per year

o Other duties as assigned

Additional Requirements:

o Assess and communicate with ill clients, co-workers and general public.

o Must have a passion for caregiving and a desire to help others

o Must be neat in appearance and practice good personal hygiene.

o Must have a reliable means of transport.

o Must have a valid proof a negative TB test, or be willing to get tested.

o Must have CPR and First Aid certifications from a recognized provider.
