RESPONSIBILITIES:


Essential Functions –


  • Prepare students to successfully complete the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pre-trip truck/trailer inspection test.
  • Prepare students to successfully complete the DMV truck/trailer CDL driving test.
  • Maintain accurate computerized student records, driving and examination appointments, and student completed drive time and scheduled drive time. (Effective use of Word, Excel, Email, etc.)
  • Oversee repair and maintenance of the CDL program trucks and trailers.
  • Teach CDL classroom and individual student driving sessions as assigned.
  • Communicate student training schedules to other driving instructor(s).
  • Timely replies to communications from administrative support staff concerning student purchased drive time, course completion certificates, driving instructor schedules and availability.
  • Communicate training equipment issues, student scheduling needs, and other program issues to the CDL Coordinator.
  • Create and prepare classroom instructional materials.
  • Administer driving exams for Class A, Class B, and school bus endorsements as a certified State of Kansas CDL examiner.
  • Work effectively within a team setting.
  • Comply with policies and procedures set forth by HutchCC.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Serve actively on campus committees as assigned.

Secondary –


  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the CDL Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS (Essential):

  • Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) required, airbrake qualification, DOT physical examination, and ability to obtain the School Bus Endorsement. The successful candidate’s driving record will be requested.
  • Ability to use computer applications effectively. Example - Excel, Word, Email, etc.
  • Ability to obtain a Kansas DMV examiner certification.
  • Ability and willingness to teach evening and weekend CDL classes.
  • Teach driving skills to students with little or no tractor/trailer driving experience.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Required physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, bending, stooping, carrying, etc., and excellent communication skills; excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills; excellent organizational skills; ability and willingness to collaborate; ability to work independently; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; moderate to heavy, indoor/outdoor work environment.
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

SALARY and STATUS:


The salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is full time, 12 months, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
