We are hiring a Commissioning Manager! This position will oversee all the commissioning and start-up activities of AE’s Li-ion battery material plant in the USA and abroad. AE’s process uses a chemical process to convert used Li-ion batteries into Nickel, Manganese, and Cobalt Sulfates, precursor Cathode Active Material (pCAM), and Cathode Active Material (CAM). Our optimal candidate will be a leader that is accountable for day-to-day management of commissioning and start-up activities, achieving the Start Of Operation (SOP) milestone for each process unit on time. Furthermore, the Commissioning Manager builds and maintains a safety culture within the commissioning organization and makes sure everyone go home safe.

This position will be based in our Westborough, Massachusetts or one of our Operation Facilities (Covington, GA or Hopkinsville KY), or hybrid. Extensive travel to our Operation Facilities is expected.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team of disciplined superintendents and technicians (mechanical, instrumentation, electrical)
  • Schedule mobilization of all commissioning resources (EPC, Engineering company, Equipment vendors, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering).
  • Develops a commissioning execution plan, commissioning procedures, commissioning schedule, handover plan, training plan, and vendor mobilization plan during the Detailed Design phase.
  • Organize and lead all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up activities: tightness test, pipe flushing, motor solo runs, equipment coupled runs, instrument calibration, I/O checks, sequence tests, dynamic tests, SAT, until the handover to the Operation team.
  • Lead daily production meetings during commissioning phase
  • Coordinate activities between external partners (EPC, Engineering company, mechanical and electrical contractors, equipment vendors), and internal partners (Project Management, Project Engineering, Construction, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Sales)
  • Prepare, organize, and record testing documentation
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks and find mitigations action/workarounds to expedite commissioning activities and achieve project milestones while complying with safety protocols.
  • Participate to HAZOP studies, implement Job Safety Analyses, and perform Pre-Start-up Safety Reviews.
  • Organize day shift / night shift operation as required.
  • Develops and maintains a commissioning budget

Skills and other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or applicable engineering field. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience: 10 years of commissioning management experience
  • Experience in commissioning management of large Capitals assets (>$50M) in battery recycling, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Petrochemical, or equivalent manufacturing environments.
  • Experience driving projects with international stakeholders/suppliers, as well as working with EPC partners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external communication
  • Excellent coordination skills
  • Skilled user of MS Office tools including Word, EXCEL, Outlook, MS Project, Autocad
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
