Classification: Part-time, flexible, non-exempt

Pay Grade: Pay compensate based on experience level

GSNWGL will consider extra compensation for bilingual speakers (Spanish or Hmong).

  • Community Starter Troop leaders will lead a group of girls, primarily ages 5-8, in hands-on program activities, including community service, outdoor education, science, art, and more. Experience with Girl Scouts or leading other youth programming is a plus.
  • Staff will facilitate 2 meetings per month at each community site, such as a school, library, or community center. Patience, energy, and fun is a must!
  • Community Starter troop staff will work with parents/caregivers to promote volunteerism, learn about troop meeting facilitation, and help them start their own troops.
  • Program plans and resources will be provided, but staff will be responsible for preparing and customizing each meeting as needed. There are opportunities for creativity.
  • This is a part time position of approximately 2 hours per week per site, and applicants are encouraged to lead more than one site, but not necessary. A complete list of sites is shown in the next section. For most sites, we are hiring 2 people per site. Please indicate in your application which sites you are applying for. Most positions would start in August.

MI: Marquette, Escanaba, Hancock

Requirements:
  • Experience working with girls ages 5 to 8.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to speak in other languages helpful (i.e. Spanish, Hmong, ASL).
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation. Travel is required and is almost entirely local in nature.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, multi-task, meet deadlines, take initiative and maintain confidentiality.
  • The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally required to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to walk, and to frequently operate office equipment manually. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
