The Computational Designer (CD) role at Turf is responsible for assisting the development, verification, and execution of computational tools for design projects and assisting the Computation and Fabrication Team with Organizational Goals. They can engage in the making process, either through collaboration or independently, to create custom solutions and prototypes that expand the known knowledge set of computation to fabrication. The CD is accountable for the maintenance of existing Grasshopper based parametric tools, ensuring consistent functionality and improvements as new variables and limitations are encountered.
Within this scope, the CD is responsible for all verifications of new and existing parametric tools for custom design projects. They are also expected to review and analyze machining steps, sequencing, along with any other necessary considerations that might impact the smooth manufacturing of custom products on design projects.

- Assisting on Custom Projects as it relates to parametric design.
- Assisting Computation and Fabrication Team on new script Development for product launches
- Assisting with fabrication and validation of custom solutions.
- Assisting the training and implementation of new tools and processes
- Assisting the Computation and Fabrication Team on Organizational Goals

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Ability to develop, document, and produce custom prototypes in Grasshopper and Rhino
- Understands how to resolve product issues and displays urgency in advocating for or implementing "root cause" changes
- Comfortable in high tolerance CAD/CAM production via CNC as well as the production of relevant shop drawings
- General comprehension of digital fabrication in architecture
- General understanding of architectural specification process
- General understanding of building codes
- High proficiency in Rhino 3D required
- High Proficiency in Grasshopper required
- Proficiency with Python, C#, or JS is highly desirable
Education and/or Experience
Degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, or related field.
Location & Reporting:
This position works out of the Firehouse (Chicago office) and reports to the Computational Design Manager. This is a full-time, salaried position and exempt from overtime pay. Occasional travel to the manufacturing plant (Gilberts) is to be expected. Occasionally requires lifting 10-20lbs, could accommodate wheelchair, non-walker.
