Contemporary/Modern Worship Music Minister – Part Time

Summary:

The Contemporary/Modern Worship Music Minister will oversee music programming at St. John, reporting to the Council and Pastor.

Accountabilities/Functions:

The Modern Music Minister will organize, coordinate, and oversee music and music worship activities in the Faith & Life Center (and the courtyard in the summers) and specifically will:

• Be the worship leader at least 2x/month in the modern service.
• Oversee music for modern worship services and collaborate with Pastor and modern worship service leaders on music selections for modern worship services, to enhance the gospel and message delivered.
• Practice and prepare as a musician.
• Plan and coordinate with other music leaders to develop and facilitate ensembles within St. John, and collaboration with ensembles from outside of St. John.
• Recruit, train, and schedule team members, from all age groups within the congregation, to assist with worship services and other church related activities.
• Maintain and organize musical equipment in the FLC and closet.
• Coordinate with Technology & Communication Team to ensure quality digital presence at modern worship services. This includes scheduling Sound Techs in the FLC.
• Help plan, coordinate, or accompany the musical needs for seasonal Worship Services such as Lent, Easter, Advent, and Christmas Eve that occur in the FLC.
• Make available new resources and ideas to program participants.
• CCLI License One reporting.
• Maintain a music library with the help of other directors/volunteers.
• Collaborate with the Worship & Celebration Team on an annual budget for music ministry within the church.
• Collaboration status meeting with Pastor/Music Ministers (monthly)
• Attend Worship & Celebration Team meeting (quarterly)
• Attend Staff Meetings (occasionally)

Requirements/Qualifications:

To accomplish this, the Music Minister needs:

● Have a strong background in music (preferably a music degree).

● Ability to play a keyboard and/or guitar.

● Have strong organizational skills

● Experience leading music and worship in a band.

● Familiarity with contemporary Christian music, the ability to lead effectively in worship, and willingness to continue learning about all music of the church.

● Familiarity with sound systems beneficial

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

● Ability to work in a team setting and situations.

● Adhere to the St. John’s Constitution, Bylaws, and Annual Ministry plan (Budget).
