Job Summary:

The Cook prepares and serves meals according to cycle menu and works with the Dietary Manager regarding special dietary needs of patients. The Cook also monitors methods of food handling, preparation, meal service and equipment cleaning.
Job Duties:

Salary Range: $17-20 per hour

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
1. Coordinate food preparation and meal service.
2. Plan and initiate cooking schedule for food preparation to meet meal schedule. 3. Prepare, season, cook and serve for assigned meal; ensure appropriate portioned servings according to portion control standards.
4. Prepare nutritional snacks for patients as directed by the Dietary Manager and/or Registered Dietician.
5. Taste and smell prepared food to determine quality and palatability.
6. Monitor temperature of hot and cold foods throughout food preparation and service to ensure that established temperature goals are met and maintained throughout meal service.
7. In the absence of Dietary Manager, check and inspect food products and supplies as delivered. Assist in storage of supplies and food products.
8. Determine amount and type of food and supplies as required for daily menus.
9. Notify Dietary Manager of food, supplies or equipment needs. Report equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions to Dietary Manager.
10. Clean equipment and work areas as assigned by Dietary Manager.
11. Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties.
12. Perform other duties as assigned by Dietary Manager

QUALIFICATIONS

• A High School graduate or equivalent education is preferred.
• Preference is given to persons with education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets.
• A minimum one (1) year food service experience in health care dietary setting is desired.
• Candidate must have general knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving, the numerical ability necessary to make various computations in keeping work records and abilities in recipe preparation. Must also have an appreciation for the value of food and dietary equipment and an awareness of the requirement for careful handling and economy of serving.
