This position queries providers and works closely with pediatric manager coding compliance on coder and provider education. Responsible for meeting with coders, providers and administrators as requested. Coding Coordinator assists with training new providers and assists, manager coding compliance as a resource to providers, coders, other coding coordinators, pediatric coding supervisors, and A/R staff. Performs audits, reviews OPBC audits/OPBC WQ, and payer audits for inpatient, emergency medicine and clinic services. Reviews and helps with appeals request for accurate and timely billing.Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs yearly audits on all pediatric divisions for all E&M services and procedures. Sends queries to providers as well as documentation feedback. Sends queries to coders and provides coding feedback. Works closely with pediatric manager coding compliance on coder and provider education. Pulls notes, create spreadsheets, creates audit reports and assists with meetings with coders, providers, and administrators as requested.
- Assists as resource to providers, appeals team, and coding team.
- Resolves Epic edits and appeals requests to ensure timely billing and accurate billing. Reviews coding and billing reports to ensure accuracy.
- Reviews OPBC and payer audits to identify opportunities for appeal as well as education opportunities for providers and coders. Reports all issues identified to the Compliance Coordinator and assists with feedback to providers and coding staff.
- Assists in identifying proper CPT and ICD-10 codes for new E&M services and procedures. Reviews documentation to determine proper CPT and ICD-10 codes for E & M services and procedures performed by department providers upon request by division leaders as well as during scheduled audits.
- Maintains coding certification.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed Monday-Friday.
- Some weekends or evenings may be required to meet business needs as well as extra hours on a daily/weekly basis during peak times.
- Daily work is performed utilizing a computer and position is eligible for work-from-home.
- Some presentations, training, and meetings may require coding coordinator to be on campus/in the office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Pediatric non-surgical pediatric subspecialties services including Neonatology, Pediatric Critical Care, and Intensive Care, Sedations and Emergency Room services.
- Also, experience with procedures by GI, Renal, and Pulmonary specialists.
- Proficient in medical terminology, evaluation and management CPT codes and ICD-10 coding.
- Organized in material, thought, and action.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Excellent written and oral communications.
- Exhibit professional behavior at all times.
Required Qualifications
- Experience equivalent of Associate’s degree or two to three years of related experience in areas such as medical coding, claims processing, billing/collection practices and accounting; must have one of the following coding credentials: AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P); AAPC (CPC, CPC-H, or one of the AAPC specialty-specific coding credentials (the specialty-specific credential is only valid for that employee’s department).
- REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: The RHIT or RHIA (or eligible) certification in health information management may be recognized in lieu of a coding credential.

C11Salary Range
$53,900.00 - $83,500.00 / Annually The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Accommodation
