Coordinator of Novice Teacher Support (3435) Job at Little Rock School District
The LRSD Novice Teacher Supports Program is designed to serve as a recruitment and retention strategy to ensure 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year teachers receive the assistance and support needed to provide students with a high-quality learning experience. The Novice Teacher Supports Coordinator will reimagine and design a system of support aimed to help new LRSD teachers build individual efficacy and confidence to become and to be what our students need to advance learning. The coordinator, with support and guidance from internal and external subject matter experts, will create and build all systems and program components.
The major goal of the developing LRSD Novice Teacher Supports Program is to identify, develop, and utilize mentor teachers to carry out the following tasks:
- Facilitate the adjustment and success of novice teachers.
- Support and encourage novice teachers.
- Act as positive role models for new teachers.
- Share with novice teachers the objectives, culture, and expectations of the school and school system.
- Promote professional growth, self-confidence, and success on the part of the novice teacher.
- Assist the novice teacher in developing decision-making skills.
- Assist the novice teacher in lesson planning, classroom management, discipline, time management, teaching strategies, motivation, and other areas.
Work Days/Work Hours: 5 days/8 hours
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master's Degree or higher with a major in Educational Administration/Leadership (or a related major) from an accredited institution.
- A valid Arkansas educator license
- Successful school or district leadership experience required (teacher leadership included)
- At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
- Advanced technology skills and knowledge and the ability to utilize technology in a meaningful matter
- Maintain high confidentiality
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to build a deeper understanding of AR Content Standards
- Ability to conduct professional development for teachers and administrators
- Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze data

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- In addition to the minimum qualifications, a Master’s Degree or higher with a major in Adult Education from an accredited institution.
- Experience developing a positive culture and climate within a school or school system.
- Training or expertise in the area of novice teachers and staff development.

- Leads staff development sessions.
- Implements effective coaching rounds for Novice Teachers.
- Demonstrates lessons and observes Novice Teachers.
- Attends required district, regional, and state meetings
- Develops and maintains Title II Novice Teacher and other state/federal required reports.
- Prepares and maintains Accurately Reporting Novice Teacher Data as required by Arkansas Standards for Accreditation.
- Creates and maintains the Novice Teacher website and builds an online library of supports.
- Analyze retention, recruitment, assessment, and survey data.
- Plans, develops, and coordinates new teacher orientation, training in school system policies and procedures for beginning teachers, the beginning teacher support program, and other programs supporting teacher development as assigned.
- Plans and collaborates with school system principals to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites.
- Delivers system-wide orientation, training, mentoring, and support programs for beginning teachers.
- Assists the district Professional Development Committee with developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instruction for beginning teachers.
- Assists in the evaluation of the district and school-level professional development for impact on increased teacher effectiveness and improved academic achievement.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors concerning pertinent aspects of the district and school-level professional development programs, particularly for beginning teachers.
- Encourages and supports the development and implementation of innovative, effective instructional programs based on scientifically based research to increase achievement for all students.
- Monitors professional development activities for beginning teachers.
- Monitors the teacher evaluation system for Beginning Teacher Support compliance.
- Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities
- Carries out other duties assigned by the Chief Officer for Human Resources in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer.
