The Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas
includes 91 Parishes and 19 schools. It stretches from Quanah, Texas just northwest of Wichita Falls in the West and extends to Penelope, Texas in the Southeast. The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas.

General Position Summary: The Coordinator of Youth Ministry provides the primary leadership for the design and implementation of the Youth Ministry (Grades 6th-12th) program at Saint Thomas. The program involves leading the youth in discipleship of Jesus Christ and preparing them to receive the sacraments of initiation, specifically confirmation.

Principal Accountabilities:

Formation

Develops a comprehensive process of formation and training of catechists for youth in grades 6th-12th.
Develops sound evangelization and catechetical curricula in the area of sacraments, doctrine, morality, and prayer that have been approved by the Diocese.
Leads the implementation of catechetical programs for parish youth and catechetical components of youth catechumenate, candidate initiation, and confirmation preparation.
Where appropriate, refers youth and parents to suitable updated reading and resource materials for the youth, parents, and/or family’s spiritual and catechetical information and enrichment.

Social/Service

Implements a schedule of social opportunities for the youth of the parish to form community identity and establish peer relationships within the parish community.
Implements a schedule of service activities for the youth of the parish in order to develop their sense of responsibility to and awareness of the needs of the parish community and beyond.
Keeps youth, parents and the parish informed of Diocesan programs, social, service and retreat opportunities.
Manages all social media accounts associated with Youth Ministry.

Supervision/Recruitment/Training of Leaders

Supervised by the Director of Religious Education (DRE), leads the catechetical instruction of all related youth activities.
Trains adults to be discipleship leaders for the youth.
Trains youth to be peer leaders within the program.

Administration

Obtains parental support and consent for activities.
Maintains current records on all youth participating in programs and all adult leaders.
With the DRE, prepares and manages the annual budget for Youth Ministry.
Attends staff meetings.
Continues personal education through appropriate classes and workshops.
Establishes a collaborative relationship with parents and families. Facilitates opportunities for catechesis and teaching for parents in their role as first and best teachers of the faith.
Connects with other youth ministry groups and committees in the diocese and in appropriate professional associations.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

Able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods. Frequent use of computer keyboard that requires repetitive hand and wrist movements.
Frequent evenings, weekends, and occasional over-night stays.
Frequent walking, standing, and sitting.
Travel required for training and supervising youth retreats/events

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

Required:

Active, practicing member of the Catholic Church in good standing. Knowledge/ability to share Catholic faith with youth.
Able to design and implement a variety of youth oriented programs.
Ability to work with parents and children of all ages.
Successful completion of the Diocesan Safe Environment program.
Organizational skills, including ability to communicate well, orally and written; time management; delegation; planning; and budgeting.
Listening skills, crisis intervention and referral skills, group processing and facilitation skills.
Knowledge of adolescent / pre-teen spiritual /personal development, and youth cultures.
Basic computer skills.

Preferred:

Bilingual (proficiency in English and Spanish)
Preferred formation in evangelization and catechesis through certification program or working towards a degree in Catechetics or Theology (where applicable).
