Job Summary
- Performs CT procedures following the protocols established by the referring physicians or Radiologists. Operates CT scanner to produce cross sectional anatomical images of consistent optimal quality. Operates CT equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, following established safety guidelines.
Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
- Non Degree Program: Graduate from a two-year AMA approved radiologic technology program (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
- ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (Required)
- BLS - Basic Life Support (Required)
- RT (R) (CT) - Registered Technologist (R) (CT) (Preferred)
Experience
- General Experience and knowledge of cross sectional anatomy (Required)
- General Experience as a CT Scan Technologist (Preferred)

General Responsibilities
- Complies with all Temple University Health System policies and procedures, and all applicable accreditation standards, laws and regulations, including those regarding patient confidentiality such as, but not limited to, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, P. L. 104-191 ('HIPAA') and the rules and regulations implemented hereunder.

Job Responsibilities
Documentation
- Documents all actions and communications in Primordial, RIS, PACS and other required systems in a manner which will hold up to legal scrutiny.
- Communicates medical report information as required according to departmental procedures.
- Reports errors in documentation, noncompliance with policies and or processes, etc. to the areas direct Manager to ensure proper and timely corrective action.
Patient Customer Service
- Maintains excellent public relations with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Addresses issues or potential issues involving customer service and identifies process improvement opportunities.
- Ensures that patients, their families, visitors, customers and staff members are treated with kindness and respect.
- Collaborates with Hospital personnel to ensure optimal patient care and promote a positive working environment in unit and Hospital.
CT Procedures
- Performs all procedures approved by the radiologists in accordance with written guidelines and protocols. Follows established Radiation safety practices
- Scans appropriate areas according to CT request and uses correct imaging positions and techniques appropriate to age and size
- Operates equipment to produce diagnostic images for all age groups for interpretation by a physician. Maintains proficiency in clinical and equipment competencies in all clinical settings
- Assists physicians with securing and viewing images as needed for all available technologies.
- Provides radiologists with proper patient history documentation. Maintains records, films, and paperwork.
Equipment Usage
- Utilizes available systems to perform processes and promote departmental work flow.
- Correctly operates CT scanner to produce images of consistent optimal quality, including daily QA documentation, preventive maintenance scheduling and service calls.
- Exercises proper handling and care of all equipment. Notifies the correct department upon equipment failure.
- Utilizes scanning capabilities into the EMR, RIS, PACS and other required systems as needed to ensure information is available to Radiologist and other users for expeditious patient care purposes, as required.
- Demonstrates ability to start IV's .
- Demonstrates competency in use of power injector.
Patient Safety/General Safety
- Verify patient identification with 2 patient identifiers before performing any CT procedure. This includes verifying a patient's identity on their ID bracelet.
- Provides proper protection and shielding to the patient in order to avoid unnecessary exposure to radiation.
- Screens patients for proper diet, preparation, and history of allergy prior to injection of any contrast material.
- Documents LMP on female patients of childbearing age prior to performing CT procedures.
