Summary

The Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative for Quality Improvement (MARCQI) is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN) Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI) that aims to address inconsistencies and variations in patient outcomes related to hip and knee joint replacement surgery. The goals of MARCQI are to create a statewide quality improvement infrastructure by developing a consortium of hospitals in Michigan to engage in quality improvement activities for hip and knee joint replacement surgery procedures and reduce the costs of this care in the State of Michigan. We are bringing together arthroplasty practices across the state of Michigan to collaborate and share data regarding processes of care and clinical outcomes in the treatment of hip and knee replacement procedures. We are seeking a highly skilled individual who will serve as a Data Visualization Specialist for our Coordinating Center full-time located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The MARCQI Coordinating Center collects and analyzes multi-sites observational data. This position supports various activities for quality improvement.

Responsibilities*

This person will serve as a member of the MARCQI analytic team and be responsible for working closing with analytic team members, MARCQI Senior Program Manager, MARCQI Program Directors, and MARCQI coordinators.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop data visualization tools for quality improvement

  • Work with MARCQI statisticians to implement their statistical models into visualization tools

  • Develop and deploy online interactive data visualization tools for surgeons, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, payors, and patients to use

  • Conduct elementary statistical analyses such as computing descriptive statistics and simple measures of data dispersion and variation

  • Maintain Tableau dashboard for orthopaedic implant revision risk data

  • Document all projects, both internally in code and externally

  • Conduct user interface (UI) design of visualization tools

  • Work with orthopaedic surgeons and other stakeholders to identify needs for visualization tools

  • Align visualization tools with current MARCQI quality improvement initiatives

  • Actively participate in and attend all MARCQI collaborative meetings.

  • Assist sites and MARCQI Coordinators with data analysis reports utilization related to quality improvement projects.

  • Complete other assigned projects, as needed

Required Qualifications*

  • Proficient ability to use Python, HTML, cascading style sheets (CSS), or similar tools for developing and deploying interactive data visualization tools online

  • Ability to implement statistical models that have been fit by statisticians (OLS regression, logistic regression, hazard modeling, etc.) in visualization tools

  • Proficient ability to use Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint), Google Suite (e.g. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Jamboard), DropBox, EndNote

  • Independently address tasks with minimal direct supervision

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Positive attitude and a willingness to identify areas needing support and providing it

  • Ability to work cohesively in a team

  • Strong multi-tasking ability with propensity to adjust for changing priorities.

  • Excellent judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner.

  • Discretion when dealing with highly sensitive information

  • Focus on customer service

  • Well-developed organizational skills

  • When safe to do so, individual must be able to be in the office in Ann Arbor, Michigan and travel to meetings locations across the state throughout the year.

Intermediate Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, human factors, data science, biostatistics, health analytics, or information science

  • 1-3 years professional experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Proficient in Python, HTML, CSS, LaTeX, Tableau

  • Experience in user interfaces (UI) design and conducting usability assessments

Additional Information

  • This is a hybrid position that will require the ability to be in the office in Ann Arbor, Michigan 3-4 times a week.
