Beelman River Terminal is hiring for a Deckhand position for our Venice, IL Terminal. Beelman provides transportation services for cargo and goods shipping via barges. These are in-terminal positions that involve no traveling with or living on vessels.

Physical Requirements

Normal use of hands, fingers, and limbs. Must possess the ability to bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces. Must possess the flexibility to work in varying positions including but not limited to prone or lying positions and reaching overhead. Must possess the manual strength to use shovels, handle and pull ropes and cables, and use basic tools and cleaning implements. Must be able to regularly kneel, crouch, crawl, and squat to complete various tasks and be able to maintain balance and stability. Must be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds from ground level to a height of 60 inches for distances up to 1000 feet.

Job Responsibilities

* Work inside the terminal and on barges docked at the terminal

* Work outside and will be exposed to weather conditions

* Load and unload barges

* General housecleaning of premises including shoveling, mowing, and cleaning equipment

* Conduct light maintenance of plant equipment including greasing, scraping, painting, and small repairs

* Proficiency or willingness to be trained in operating skid steers, forklifts, and frontend loaders is preferred

* Must be aware of the possibility of weekend, holiday, and night shift work

* Must be willing to travel out of town to our Chicago River Terminal if the need arises

* Other general labor tasks

General Requirements

* Prior river terminal experience preferred but not required

* Must possess a valid driver's license

* Reliable transportation

* Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language

* Must a willing team member with the ability and willingness to learn and follow directions
