Job Description:
Albemarle utilizes company written standards to define minimum requirements when procuring goods and services. These compliment industry-based standards. The Design Requirements Leader is accountable for assuring these documents are current to known best practices and are available/portable for users who support projects and Albemarle operating facilities including in-house engineering and maintenance. These documents may include but are not limited to Engineering Specifications, Engineering Standards, Best Practices and Design Requirements. The purpose of these documents is to allow engineers and users to specify the proper requirements quickly and accurately for equipment and services in a consistent and reliable way as well as apply practices from the industry. Normal tasks for this position include development of new documents, updating & revising of existing documents, and central support for employees and consultants. Position will be required to collaborate with the Design Requirements Lead in Asia Pacific, subject matter experts (SMEs), and project teams.
This Lead should have a general understanding of multiple engineering disciplines that support the chemicals and mining industries such as Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Instruments, Automation, Electrical, and Process; for the purpose of driving minimal design requirements in each discipline to assure Albemarle meets regional and local regulatory codes and standards. Must have good language skills relating to standards and technical writing. Candidate should have practical knowledge and work experience in the following areas: technical design; capital project execution; maintenance and operation of equipment. Excellent communication skills are required, including the ability to ask questions, advocate for compliance, solicit feedback, manage differences in opinion, and maintain a teamwork atmosphere.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate establishment of minimum design requirements for the Albemarle plants and projects in the Americas, which is typically the local regulatory codes and standards.
  • Assist major projects on defining the design requirements to be applied on the project, typically includes adopting EPC design requirements (industry/regional normal practices) along with company-critical requirements.
  • Support gap analysis against existing Albemarle specifications and standards (Technical Standards) to define unique company-critical requirements in addition to the minimum.
  • Publish and maintain these requirements moving forward.
  • Work closely with APAC Design Requirements Leader, Document Managers, SharePoint, and TEAMs coordinators to organize and deploy requirements around the globe.
  • Provide support to projects, maintenance, and operations relating to design requirements.
  • Collaborate with SMEs when developing new standards.
  • Revise and improve existing documents on a routine basis to keep relevant and current to industry requirements and best practices.
  • Review and proofread documents for content and clarity of information conveyed.
  • Validate and consolidate reviewer comments and incorporate them into a new or revised document.
  • Develop and maintain lists of review groups for different subject categories (rotating equipment, electrical power, instrumentation, inspection, structural, coatings, etc.).
  • Oversee and maintain annual subscriptions of industry standard publications and global access.
  • Provide training to employees on content and usage of the tools where documents reside.
  • Interact with internal and external personnel on issues related to the use of company Technical Standards.
  • Incorporate company policies within Technical Standards.
Qualifications:
  • Broad technical background with emphasis on equipment and service providers that support the specialty chemical and mining industries.
  • Experience in various engineering and projects positions in the mining, chemical, and refining industries.
  • Project execution, technical design, and construction management experience a plus.
  • Excellent language and writing skills for technical documents.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in current editions of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
  • Highly motivated to provide high accuracy, quality, and completeness of work in both group and individual environments.
  • The candidate should understand the regulatory requirements for the Americas and be willing to learn the Albemarle policies related to special engineering design aspects.
  • Experience in establishing the minimum design requirements for a project and working with other engineering design consultants on whose requirements fit best for a given project.
  • Effective in interacting and collaborating with personnel with various backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to travel to various company sites.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering desired but other Technical Degrees will be considered with significant relevant experience.
  • 10+ years of industry experience with emphasis on project execution, engineering design, and construction.
  • 5+ years of experience defining and maintaining company Standards.
  • Relevant international experience a plus.
