The Henry L. Stimson Center (Stimson) seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a full-time Development Assistant/Associate. Reporting to the Director of Development, the position is an integral member of our team with a primary focus on helping the organization in building and maintaining a diverse organizational and programmatic funding base. Tasks range from supporting prospect research efforts to assisting in grant proposal and reporting processes to maintaining an accurate organizational pipeline. The Development Assistant also provides support for donor cultivation and Board stewardship.

The Development Assistant/Associate is responsible for three main areas of work: (1) managing program-based development; (2) supporting the Director of Development in the execution of broad organizational fundraising goals; and (3) providing general administrative and event support, as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide administrative support;
  • Assist in Salesforce database and grant calendar management, including data entry and monitoring upcoming deadlines;
  • Support programmatic grant proposal and reporting processes;
  • Support programmatic and institutional prospect research via executive briefing materials;
  • Support relationship management and donor stewardship with Board Members, Advisory Councils, individual donors, and foundations;
  • Support organizational fundraising campaigns;
  • Support the development and production of fundraising communications materials;
  • Work closely with program, finance, and administrative staff to support proposal submissions and reports; and
  • Support other development initiatives, as needed.

Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Customer service focus with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Experience working in a non-profit fundraising environment (for the Development Associate level);
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and think creatively to solve problems;
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities; and
  • Interest in and/or background in international relations, U.S. foreign policy, or related issue area.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a non-profit fundraising environment (for the Development Assistant level);
  • Experience with think tanks or academic institutions;
  • Experience working specifically in grants management, Board support, individual giving, and/or organizational management;
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce;
  • Prior fundraising experience in a think tank, research or academic institution; and
  • Grant writing/editing experience.

Education & Work Experience:

Required:

  • Development Assistant level: Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of work experience in a similar or complementary role or
  • Development Associate level: Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of work experience in a similar role.
