Development Manager
ABOUT US: The Black Institute is an “action tank” – a think tank that takes action, to promote civil rights, racial and social justice. The mission of The Black Institute is to shape intellectual discourse and dialogue and impact public policy uniquely from a Black perspective (a perspective which includes all people of color in the United States and throughout the Diaspora). In support of the mission, The Black Institute is seeking a bold and dedicated Director of Development to strengthen and expand TBI issue areas in Education, Economic Fairness, Immigration, and Environment.
Your role
As the Development Manager, you will help shape and lead the implementation of a robust fundraising strategy and ongoing advancement of our mission and vision through fundraising. You will be working closely with the executive team, in developing relationships with donors and sponsors, in creating grant proposals, in tracking progress of fundraising campaigns, and spearheading communication to its many stakeholders.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help implement short and long-term fundraising strategies to expand individual, corporate and foundation contributions and special events.
- Prepare grant proposals, funder solicitations and reports.
- Help build relationships with foundations, other grant-making organizations, and major donors to advance our mission and fundraising goals.
- Ensure that contributions and donor data are properly maintained in the organization's donor database.
- Conduct prospect and donor research.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (or working toward a degree) a plus.
Skill Sets:
- Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative.
- Professional, strong attention to detail, organizational, planning and time management skills.
Qualifications:
- Interest in racial justice and social equity.
- Excellent computer skills, including high proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google Suite and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently.
- Experience with donor database systems.
- 2-3 years of development and fundraising experience.
- Non-profit experience preferred.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $60,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday

Experience:
- Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)
- Grant writing: 2 years (Required)
