We work with adults with developmental disabilities in their family home. Responsibilities include ensuring health and safety along with teaching new skills, assisting with personal self-help skills including hygiene, and daily living skills. You will also be mentoring and assisting with a variety of activities as well as maintaining data for the day's events. We spend time participating in community activities such as going to local parks, going to movies, attending local events, crafting, going to the zoo, etc. Activities are based on our clientele's preferences. One thing is for sure, we have fun every day!

Applicants must have a valid drivers license, auto insurance, and a high school diploma or GED. First aid, CPR and Medication Aide certifications preferred, but not required.

Hours:

Monday – Friday: 5pm – 8pm
Saturday – Sunday: 9am – 3pm.

Direct Support Professional Job Description

Minimum educational requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Additional requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
  • Have basic computer and technology skills relevant to the support of individuals served
  • Be able to lift 50-75 lbs.

Background checks that must be passed successfully:

  • Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services – Adult / Child Protective Services Central Registry
  • Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services – Division of Developmental Disabilities approved criminal background check

Organizational structure regarding supervision:

  • Direct Support Professionals report to and are directly supervised by the Assistant Day Services Coordinator
  • Direct Support Professionals do not directly supervise any staff

Duties, responsibilities, and expectations:

  • Provide services in a manner that respects the dignity and rights of the individual and protects the rights of the individual and that the individual is free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation
  • Ensure all medical needs are being met in cooperation with day and/or residential entity or other EFN staff, including scheduling, transporting, communicating with the doctor, and ensuring all doctor’s orders are being followed accurately and timely
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and suitable environment related to the needs of the person supported.
  • Assist residential entity in teaching and encouraging well-balanced meals, especially regarding modified diets
  • Provide safe and reliable transportation that meets individual needs
  • Maintain documentation as required by EFN to ensure the individuals needs are being met as agreed upon by the team and reimbursement for the service
  • Responsible for working with EFN and ISP team to develop, improve, or maintain skills to maximize inclusion
  • Implement all elements of the Individual Support Plan (ISP) relating to their position in EFN
  • Regularly assess through ISP meetings and monthly reviews to ensure they have access to appropriate levels of supports and services to meet the goals of the individual served
  • Ensure that all services stated in the ISP are provided according to the needs of the individual
  • Provide feedback to their supervisor regarding progress and barriers with the implementation of the ISP
  • All other duties assigned by supervisors
