Summary/Objective

The Director of Government Grants will develop government grant funding resources and write proposals on behalf of Volunteers of America Northern Rockies. The Director of Government Grants will work closely with the Business Development team, operational leaders, and administrative staff to prepare applications for government funding.

Essential Functions

  • Understand the principals, practices, and techniques of the grant research and writing process.
  • Drive timelines to ensure grant submittal, renewal, and reporting.
  • Work with senior and program leadership to identify needed funding and target related opportunities.
  • Maintain comprehensive government grants calendar and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a schedule for grant reporting requirements and final close-out activities.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with funding sources and VOANR staff.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of applications, proposals, and funding requirements.
  • Conduct research and use a wide variety of written, electronic, and public contact resources to access potential funding.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of work experience in development and grant writing, prospect research, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the grant writing field.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to adapt writing style as appropriate to VOA's specific relationship with funders.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as creativity, resourcefulness, and humor.
  • Excellent research skills, preferably with experience in researching government grant resources using online databases and the Internet.
  • Proficiency in basic software applications is required, including spreadsheets, Google, etc.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a related area and at least three years of work experience in development and grant writing, prospect research, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
