POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Director/Department Head – Basic Law Enforcement Program Savannah Technical College seeks a Director/Department Head for the Basic Law Enforcement Program. This individual will provide theory and practical instruction to a level sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to complete the Basic Law Enforcement Certification Technical Certificate of Credit. The individual will also be responsible for curriculum development and management, managing faculty, evaluating program effectiveness, ensuring quality of instruction, developing and managing budgets, grants, and delivery of instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or in a related field with 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice.
  • Five (5) years of full-time law enforcement experience.
  • P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards Training) Instructor Certification.
  • Proven experience in maintaining lesson plans and course notebooks that reflect current curriculum.
  • Ability to use a variety of teaching methods, including online, to facilitate adult learning and provide educational assistance to individual students as needed.
  • Knowledge of current trends and conditions of local business and industry.
  • Experience in designing and implementing quality improvement programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a Director of a Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Defensive Tactics, Firearms, EVOC, Use of Force Instructor Certifications from P.O.S.T.

Physical Demands

The employee occasionally lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. The ability to speak clearly, hear and understand at a normal conversational level is required. Full range of hand and finger motion is required for data entry purposes.

Salary/Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
