POSITION TITLE:
Director, Individual Giving (Annual Giving)

DIVISION: Development

REPORTS TO: SVP, Development (Individual Giving) STATUS: Exempt

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000


POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Director will oversee all aspects of United Way of Massachusetts Bay's Annual Giving, including Tocqueville United ($10,000+), Beacon United ($1K to $9.9K) and participation level gifts ($5 to $99). The Director is responsible for donor identification, qualification, cultivation, education, solicitation, stewardship, and prospecting annual leadership gifts ($10,000+) in support of United Way of Massachusetts Bay's fundraising efforts, managing a portfolio of 75 prospects. The Director will manage the Manager of Annual Giving. The Director is also responsible for establishing, staffing and leveraging key internal partnerships in order to achieve optimal results.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working closely with the SVP, Development - Individual Giving, direct the annual giving program, focusing on participation gifts (sub-$1K), Beacon United ($1K-$9.9K), Tocqueville United ($10K+), and CITC (Community Investment Tax Credit Program) gifts.
  • Sets and develops cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to support annual giving programs, including but not limited to upgrading donors to higher levels of giving. Supports determination of potential gift amount asks and activities to increase annual support.
  • Prepares routine analysis and monitors revenue and expense goals. Sets direction and strategy for email blasts and direct mail outreach to achieve annual giving goals, and manages execution of said activities.
  • Manages an annual giving portfolio of 75+ prospects and maintains accurate and detailed donor records to analyze deployment of resources against objectives. The Director of Individual Giving - Annual Giving is responsible for executing a moves management plan for a portfolio of donors and prospects which includes cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship goals achieved through strategic engagement, in-person visits, personal phone calls, and handwritten notes for donors in their portfolio. Engages in researching/utilizing existing information to effectively leverage relationships.
  • In partnership with the SVP, Development - Individual Giving, co-creates a targeted strategy for cultivating and stewarding generational donor constituencies such as Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and others.
  • Manages, coaches, and supports the professional growth of the Manager Annual Giving to deliver outstanding relationship management results.
  • Partners with Public Affairs and Development Systems & Operations on the creation of collateral materials.
  • Enters all meeting notes into UWMB's Andar database system within 5 business days of each donor visit and, as necessary, alerts Development staff to any time sensitive knowledge gained from visits that could be leveraged for the good of United Way and the community. Builds and enhances relationships with internal colleagues to gain knowledge and trust and achieve optimal results.
  • Utilizes a consultative approach with donors and prospects to ensure that individual goals are aligned with the organizational goals and overall development goals. Co-leads discussions on the topic of strategies for annual giving leadership donor engagement.
  • With the SVP, Development - Individual Giving, co-directs annual giving cultivation and stewardship events; support other UW events, as needed.
  • Co-manages select volunteer committees (board and non-board) as assigned by SVP, Development - Individual Giving.
  • Attends and participates in community events to strengthen United Way's presence and strengthens relationships with donor constituent base.
  • Incorporates and practices Community Centric Fundraising principles into work plans and activities (https://communitycentricfundraising.org/).


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 5-7 years of fundraising or transferable experience in either the private or non-profit sector.
  • Experience and understanding of consultative sales and engagement approach preferred.
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and to the mission of the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.
  • Proven experience and ability to build relationships with donors resulting in leadership annual gifts.
  • Previous experience managing direct reports preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to inform, inspire and connect prospects and donors to United Way's work in the community.
  • Strong customer service skills and commitment to donor confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal partnerships and work within cross-functional teams, team player.
  • High-energy individual with a positive outlook.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to changing environment.
  • Creative and Strategic problem solver.
  • Highly motivated self-starter; able and willing to take initiative and action
  • Commitment to accountability.
  • Proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment required. Experience with data management systems strongly preferred.
  • Volunteer Management preferred.
  • Reliable access to the Internet and flexibility with hybrid work, with at least 2 days in the office at one of United Way's offices: Boston, Beverly, or Attleboro.
