    Must hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership and/or Support Personnel License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Accreditation in Public Relations preferred.

    Bachelor's degree in related field required.

    Work Experience
    Seven years of experience in the public relations field with an emphasis on publications production and communications planning required.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
    Serve as a key player in the development and implementation of the school system's comprehensive program of strategic communications and engagement through communications planning and management of the district-level print and digital publications program. Use oral and written skills to effectively communicate to internal and external audiences, serving as a member of the creative team to build support for the district's vision, mission, and goals and to promote a positive image of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), its programs, and local schools.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

    1. Lead the planning for all district-level publications including, but not limited to, digital and print newsletters for internal and external audiences, annual report, informational flyers, promotional materials, reports, and brochures on system initiatives.
    a. Develop and manage the summer production schedule of print and digital materials.
    b. Develop and maintain editorial calendars for newsletters.
    c. Determine appropriate content for district-level publications.
    d. Work with district leaders to define the scope of newsletter articles and assign staff to write content.
    e. Research and write content for newsletters and other publications.
    f. Maintain high standards and conform to GCPS' style and editorial policy in written work and in the editing of other’s work, ensuring accuracy in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and adherence to GCPS style in all written work.
    g. Oversee the design of publications in collaboration with Branding and Design Manager.
    h. Edit and proofread copy, review layout, ensure accuracy of information presented, and ensure grammatical integrity.
    i. For printed materials, sign off on press-ready copy, ensure print production is cost-effective, and manage the schedule to ensure on-time production.

    2. Counsel district and school leaders in the production of publications and collateral materials that are part of a planned public relations program/effort, including the Teacher of the Year Program, Kindergarten Registration, Counselor Recognition Event, Area Board meetings, introduction of new programs/services, and other publications.
    a. Work with leaders in schools or divisions/departments to plan and produce publications that adhere to the content and brand standards established by the district.

    3. Manage work to ensure equitable access for all stakeholders to district-level communications.
    a Work with district leaders to identify needs for audience-specific content and publications in other languages.
    b Supervise work of the Communications Specialist to coordinate the translation and dissemination of district-level communications through internal services and external vendors to ensure access for non-English-speaking families.
    c Supervise work of Communications Specialist to remediate PDFs of district-level communications to ensure access for stakeholders with visual impairments.

    4. Manage the dissemination of information concerning the district, through established communication channels and by request of internal and external audiences.
    a Keep department staff apprised of current information to facilitate responses to inquiries.
    b Oversee the updating of general information documents.
    c Manage and work with department staff to ensure information about district policies, programs, achievements, decisions, and critical issues is accurate, timely, and consistent across all communications channels.
    d Determine appropriate communications channels for the dissemination of honors, upcoming events and deadlines, and other district information, providing guidance to department staff.

    5. Serve as team member in promoting and maintaining Gwinnett County Public Schools' desired image and the department's reputation for quality.
    a Contribute to and assist with cross-promotional opportunities for the district website, various district publications, GCPS TV, and external communications.
    b Promote and ensure a customer-focused approach among department staff.

    6. Assist the Chief Engagement Officer in developing communication plans for district initiatives.
    a. Develop messaging.
    b. Plan collateral materials.
    c. Address issues and concerns relating to communication plans.
    d Work with district leaders to implement communication plans.

    7. Complete other duties at the discretion of management in alignment with job expectations, duties, and skills.

    8. Perform other duties as assigned.
