Director of Finance Job at Providence Medical Center
Job Summary
Responsible for managing and directing the day-to-day operations of Finance department including general accounting, accounts payable, and payroll. Oversees the proper accounting of all financial transactions, maintains the general ledger, and is responsible for monthly close activities. Prepares audit, cost report, and tax return workpapers and information requests. Works collaboratively with directors to improve financial operations which contributes to the overall financial health of the organization. Provides input to management based on financial analysis. This position also serves as the backup for accounts payable and payroll processing.
Essential Functions
A. Directs and coordinates activities of financial accounting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial information for both the hospital and foundation.
B. Maintains appropriate internal control safeguards over accounting functions, including developing and writing accounting policies and procedures.
C. Supervises positions performing general accounting, accounts payable and payroll functions.
D. Oversee the general ledger and chart of accounts.
E. Ensures proper receiving and depositing of all funds.
F. Performs all bank reconciliations as part of the month end process.
G. Researches any irregularities occurring in the general ledger including recommendations based on results.
H. Oversee maintenance of capital asset records for accurate acquisition and disposal.
I. Completes and distributes monthly variance reports to directors and administration.
J. Holds open dialogue with directors regarding operational initiatives and holds them accountable for results based on recommendations.
K. Assists with the year-end financial audit including preparation of support work papers and requests for information for the audit, cost report, and tax return.
L. Assists with the development of annual budgets.
M. Works with department managers regarding the accurate and timely reporting of revenues, expenses, and statistical information.
N. Compiles and calculates special reports involving complex calculations such as employee benefits and productivity.
O. Prepares and submits various routine reporting for grants and other routine reporting, as assigned.
P. Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
Q. Provides education and training to hospital directors in understanding financial results and actions to improve performance.

Education/Experience
A. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required
B. Minimum 5 years’ experience
C. Experience working in a health care environment preferred.
