POSITION SUMMARY

The Center for Beauty and Culture promotes and employs the dynamic power of God’s Beauty as a tool for evangelization in our times. Founded on the notion that Beauty is the attractive power of the Truth, the Center offers the inherited wisdom of the Catholic Church as a partner in dialogue with artists, architects, musicians, writers, and all who make the message of Christ and his Church appealing. The Director plans and oversees the Center’s mission-related activities within the College’s “Transforming Culture in America” strategic plan, including recruitment, advancement, formation of students, extension to off campus audiences, and building relationships with other organizations. The acronym R.A.V.E.N. is used to describe the different roles of center directors at Benedictine College. While each role is important, vocational formation and extension are particularly central.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recruitment

In collaboration with the Office of Admission, the Director is responsible for recruiting mission-fit students who have an interest in the intersection of the arts, theology, and culture through the Angelico Fellows program.

  • Advancement

Partnering with the Advancement office, the Director will identify foundations and individuals that are likely supporters of its mission, and develop, submit and steward applications for support. The Center’s goal is full endowment of the Center’s budget and attracting additional support that can be used for cognate programs.

  • Vocational formation

The Director will offer collegiate courses. At least one course about how Beauty draws people to God must be geared toward Angelico Fellows. There is some flexibility regarding which other courses will be offered based on experience, specialization, research interests, and institutional needs.

The Director will manage the Angelico Fellows, a program of distinction for students who are particularly interested in advancing the mission of the Center. This includes regular meetings, outings, service opportunities, and the administration of student grants.

The Director will coordinate guest lectures by distinguished speakers each year, including in partnership with the College’s annual Symposium on Transforming Culture in America.

  • Extension to Off Campus Audiences

The Director will reach off-campus audiences, directly or indirectly, through writing/publishing, giving lectures and presentations, podcasts, videos, or consulting with other organizations.

The Director will award the Center’s Prize for Excellence.

  • Networking

Through existing and newly formed connections with arts organizations and programs, the Director will work to place Angelico Fellows in appropriate internships and experiential opportunities. These relationships will also be leveraged to create and execute new initiatives of the Center.
