Directs all pilot standardization, training, and fleet related activities for the Flight Department by ensuring the efficient execution of the Flight Department standards and training plan, while complying with applicable FAA guidance and Company policies and procedures. Provides oversight of the development, delivery, and scheduling of all pilot training activities. Responsible for all Pilot Training records, their accuracy and compliance with FAA guidance and Company policies and procedures. Aids with forecasting pilot training needs and the instructional staffing and equipment needed. Responsible to accomplish and resolve all aircraft fleet related matters in accordance with all Company policies and procedures as well as the DOT, FAA, and TSA regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Leads the Flight Department in training, training scheduling, and fleet standardization/improvement.
- Supervises the scheduling of all training resources, including simulators, classrooms, and associated equipment.
- Oversees the efficient scheduling of training for Pilots, Flight Instructors, and Ground Instructors.
- Ensures that the travel and hotel accommodation needs are met during training of all pilots and the required Ground Instructors, Flight Instructors, and Simulator Check Airmen.
- Projects future training staffing requirements and associated needs.
- Helps manage and monitor pilot training to remain within budget.
- Plans for future training requirements and costs.
- Ensures all training records are in compliance with FAA and Company policy.
- Works with the Chief Pilot, Chief Flight Instructor, Lead Line Check Airmen, when necessary, on decisions regarding additional training and failure of training.
- Periodic observation of instructor staff to ensure department training objectives and standards are followed.
- Ensures that training activities are adequately supported in terms of equipment, facilities, and personnel.
- Oversees development of policies and procedures to ensure that all training is accomplished as efficiently and economically as possible.
- Oversees the management of the training process.
- Maintain operational documents (i.e., QRH, MEL, FCM, etc.)
- Participates in Manufacture/Industry Meetings.
- Assists in managing technical projects involving the Flight Department including, but not limited to, ACARS and Electronic Training Delivery Methods.
- Maintains proficiency as a Line Pilot or maintains currency in the Line Observation Program.
- Manages and participates in an on-call rotation for flight department Ferry Permit Authorizations.
- Serves as Company Event Review Committee (ERC) Member in Pilot-ASAP.
- Participates as an Emergency Response Go-Team member.
- Attendance is considered an essential responsibility.
- Adheres to all Company policies and procedures.
- Promotes and fosters a safe and secure operating environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- College degree in a technical or aviation-related area required.
- Three years operational experience with a Part 121 air carrier in a training-related capacity.
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate required.
- CL-65 Experience Preferred.
- Experience in working with, and programming, complex computer systems.
- Experience with managing IT-related projects.
- Experience and skill working with word processing, spreadsheet, and data base software on personal computers.
- Excellent writing, communication, organizational, and management skills.
- Strong analytical skills and logical aptitude to work with complex training regulations.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Knowledge of flight operation functions and procedures.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and deal with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong ability to work in a team environment.
