Position Description
Help Nevada’s disabled population by becoming a Disability Adjudicator. Joining the State of Nevada, Bureau of Disability Adjudication puts you on a great team where you can enjoy the benefits of teleworking, flexible schedules, and overtime opportunities. While telecommuting for this position is an option, it is not required. We have offices in both Carson City and Las Vegas.
This recruitment will be used to fill intermittent vacancies as they occur for the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation in our Northern Bureau of Disability Adjudication location. The position is an underfill of a Disability Adjudicator 3 position. The incumbent will progress to the next level upon meeting minimum qualifications and the approval of the appointing authority.
Disability Adjudicators evaluate disability claims and make determinations in accordance with laws and regulations governing Social Security Disability Programs. Work involves the evaluation of medical evidence to make judgments about the presence, onset, clinical severity and prognosis of physical or mental impairments and determination of the vocational potential of claimants in order to allow or deny Social Security benefits.
SPECIAL NOTES: Individual(s) selected will need to comply with the State of Nevada, Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation telecommuting policy.
Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 (Federal Background Investigation): Applicants will be subject to successfully complete a new hire criminal history background check in accordance with HSPD-12 requirements, which includes fingerprinting and prompt completion of the e-QIP background questionnaire. This process may take up to 4-5 weeks to complete before a finalized offer can be made.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a social science, health science, legal studies, business or public administration, or related field and one year of professional experience adjudicating claims for Social Security disability; managing a caseload; reading and interpreting medical and psychological diagnostic and treatment reports; and writing explanations of determinations of eligibility; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a social science, health science, legal studies, business or public administration, or related field and two years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of professional experience described above; OR one year of experience as a Disability Adjudicator I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

- The exam will consist of an application and resume evaluation. It is essential that applications/resumes include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.

- A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for fingerprinting.
