General Statement of Duties
Develops, coordinates, executes and documents programs and services that promote public improvements, revitalization, and economic growth and awareness of Downtown Mocksville.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Under regular supervision the employee in this class works with the Mocksville Tourism Development Authority, Historic Davie, Inc., Main Street Program and Community Development to promote and establish public improvements, revitalization and economic growth for the Town of Mocksville. Decisions are made on the direction, goals, and objective of the organization and involve highly sensitive and political issues affecting the organization. The employee must apply knowledge in the coordination of multiple elements working in the same direction, with focus on different aspects of a situation requiring judgement in applying various rules, procedures and decisions that may affect quality and accuracy of results.

Develops and plans strategies to accomplish set goals
Directs and manages programs for community involvement
Developing, planning and executes special events, including Tourism and Community Development
Maintains budget information and acquires liability insurance for special events
Assists with historical preservation projects
Designs, promotes, and organizes programs for economic growth of Downtown
Develops a cooperative climate between municipal services, downtown businesses and services and government officials
Uses written communication, one on one meetings, and social media to achieve all objectives
Attends all Main Street Program seminars, submit statistical reports and abide by NC Commerce Guidelines
Performs related tasks as required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of current principles and practices of Community Development, Downtown Economic Development, and Mocksville Tourism Development Authority
Considerable knowledge of policies, procedures, budgets, programs, and services pertinent to the community and economic development.
Demonstrated skills in public speaking and presentation including social media and photography
Proficient computer skills to include Excel and Power Point
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, business associates, the media, and the general public
Ability to solve unusual, as well as, commonplace problems
Ability to plan, develop, evaluate, and document community development programs and services
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Physical Requirements of Work
Work in this class is described as light using a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects and may occasionally require some physical exertion to complete tasks. An employee must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned in preparing and analyzing figures, computer terminal viewing, extensive reading and using measurement devices. Working conditions include inside and outside environmental conditions.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Planning, Public Administration or a related field plus three years experience in community development or related programs or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
