DURANT CHILDREN’S CENTER (DCC) PROGRAM COORDINATOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Our Work: Pee Dee Coalition is a well-established 36-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to the reduction of sexual assault, family violence, and child abuse and to the needs of victims. The organization serves the seven-county Pee Dee Region (Florence, Darlington, Marion, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Dillon and Williamsburg Counties) of Northeastern South Carolina.
Essential Responsibilities: The Durant Children’s Center Program Coordinator will be a member of the Leadership Team and will assume responsibility for the overall implementation of the Durant Children’s Center’s services to children and their families throughout the Pee Dee Region. The Durant Center also serves Sumter County.
Program Administration
- Maintain and coordinate all services provided within the DCC and ensure services meet at least the minimum standards put forth by the National Children’s Alliance.
- Revise and implement policies and procedures within the Center in efforts to maintain the quality of services.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of related community resources and ensure staff is knowledgeable of and utilizes this information in making referrals for families.
- Work with the Center’s Family Advocates to ensure children and protective family members are connected with appropriate referrals.
- Disseminate unique child-focused expertise throughout community, state, and national organizations.
- Facilitate the system’s change to meet the needs of abused children.
- Participate in the improvement of the community child-serving agencies’ capacity to protect children.
- Improve collaboration between relevant community agencies.
- Provide leadership to the staff of the Durant Children’s Center.
- Be aware of the physical needs of each DCC location and report problems to supervisor.
Direct Services
- Be sensitive to the needs of caregivers and children in the center. Assist when available.
- Provide forensic interviews when needed or as scheduled.
- Complete interview report and submit to referring agencies immediately.
- Provide expert testimony in court when required.
MDT Coordination and Training
- Schedule monthly MDT meetings and notify members each month to encourage participation with additional e-mail reminders prior to each meeting.
- Work with team members to identify cases for review and prepare materials accordingly.
- Attend meetings; take attendance and minutes to be distributed to team members.
- In collaboration with team members, assess training needs for the various disciplines.
- Determine dates and times of comprehensive team training and quarterly skills trainings.
- Secure locations.
- Promote trainings to MDT members. Work with supervisor in identifying professionals to lead training. Schedule as appropriate.
- Contact presenters to secure materials to be copied for handouts and determine IT needs for training day.
- Arrange for registration in advance.
- Set up meeting room, distribute materials. Evaluate based on presenter and participants’ input and observation
Professional Development
- Maintain expert status.
- Attend to professional growth and self-care.
- Attend conferences, as assigned by Executive Director.
- Stay current on professional literature.
- Participant in the state-wide peer review program for forensic interviewers in efforts to expand professionally.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field.
- Knowledge of sexual abuse and its impact on children.
- Knowledge of child development stages and a demonstrated ability to utilize this knowledge to communicate with children.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of children from different cultural backgrounds
- Significant prior experience working with children
- Knowledge of the SC criminal justice system, child protection services and courts.
- Certification in the nationally recognized forensic interview protocol, ChildFirst South Carolina preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $41,600.00 - $50,000.00 per year
