Job Summary
This position will provide writing and study assistance to graduate students in the ECE-FP program. Principal duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide one-on-one writing tutorials.
- Develop and present workshops to students in the program.
- Assist the Coach with the development of the academic success component for the ECE-FP program.
- Assist in benchmarking and evaluating the services provided in accordance with grant specific requirements.

Illinois State University is authorized to do business within the State of Illinois. All work under this appointment is required to be performed from within the State of Illinois.
Salary Rate / Pay Rate
17.50 per hour
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in academic writing, including APA citation style and research analysis.
- Interest in promoting the academic achievement of students
- Interest in working with diverse student populations
- Sensitivity to the academic, social, and cultural needs of the students in the program who are all full-time working teachers.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- General computer knowledge and competence
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a writing center or as a writing tutor
- Prior experience as a mentor or peer advisor
- CRLA certification

10-15 hours per week

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University’s supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.
