The Infrastructure Global Business Unit (GBU) is executing site civil and marine scopes of work associated with Energy LNG projects. The candidate will act in a role of Earthwork Superintendent supporting the Driftwood LNG project. The candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Lake Charles, LA.


Position Summary

The Earthworks Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the civil discipline. Supervises and directs craft under self-perform works and civil contractors, subordinate supervisors, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors’ performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for field earthworks/civil construction operations within assigned area.
  • Safely directs assigned construction work in accordance with Bechtel’s safety program.
  • Determines manual staffing requirements.
  • Coordinates established area operational plans.
  • Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by subcontractors.
  • Monitors work activities, ensures the quality of work performed.
  • Responsible for executing work assignments as requested by the Area Superintendents and Project Field Engineer.
  • Provide leadership for safety, accident, and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
  • Responsible for supervising and directing contractor(s) in a supervisor capacity within the civil discipline.
  • Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire and supervise civil craft labor to execute work.
  • Ensure the most current design document specifying civil commodities such as excavation, backfilling, dewatering, roadway, drainage systems, is provided to subcontractor to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.
  • Approves craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Prepares schedules, construction methods and procedures.
  • Supervises and directs subordinate personnel and craftsmen in construction activities within assigned area.
  • Prepares reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecast.
  • Monitors tool usage on the site.
  • Prepares Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.
  • Monitors the activities of subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Responsible for the implementation of corporate/ project policies, procedures, and instructions within assigned operations.
  • Coordinates activities with other disciplines or areas, and clients' resident representatives as instructed by construction management.
  • Assesses needs and identifies craft training requirements.
  • Monitors job site work rule compliance.
  • Ensures that all Bechtel, State and Federal safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Prepare input to 4 week look-ahead schedule with project controls.
  • Participate in leadership walk-about, toolbox and Plan of the day (POD) meetings.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 13 years of relevant work experience, or 19 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.
  • 13 years of experience in heavy industrial construction.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in field supervision on direct hire work.
  • Have a working knowledge of structural construction operations, construction surveying, excavation and backfill operations, and concrete installation.
  • Technical knowledge of drainage on infrastructure projects, including open-cut excavation, trenching, grading and general construction work in and around sensitive watercourses.
  • Knowledge of construction technologies.
  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.


Additional Qualifications:

  • Direct hire site preparation.
  • Direct hire soil mixing.
  • Direct hire piling.
  • Direct hire elevated concrete including precast prestressed concrete.
  • Marine Experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.
  • Experience of roadway construction, mass grading elements and slip-form paving activities.
  • Extensive understanding of production management including scheduling.
  • Sound communication skills.
  • Sound interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development. Extensive experience in civil construction on large projects.
  • Previous supervisory experience within civil discipline.
