Position Summary:
The department is seeking qualified and motivated individuals that will work as part of a collaborative team of supervisors in the Editorial Operations (formerly Journal Operations) Department. The successful candidates will be responsible for supervising, coaching and supporting a team. They will be focused on team success and towards ensuring a positive author experience. This role requires the ability to prioritize team assignments, while collaborating toward departmental goals. Another important focus of this role is to support staff members in their performance progression and professional development; regular goal setting, guidance and counseling are essential. This role will work closely with other Supervisors as well as the department Manager to help define and drive the priorities of the department and ensure consistency and standardized practices when appropriate. Supporting the organizational Strategic Plan, particularly as it pertains to the initiatives of the Publications team is essential to this role.

This position could require at times in office work, various geographic events and meeting attendance as instructed by your Supervisor. Responsibilities:
- Supervision: The Team Supervisor works closely with staff to ensure that all functions are performed with a high level of accuracy and efficiency, as well as within the productivity standards set by the department.
- Performance Management: Individual and group performance is proactively assessed throughout the year. As a result of regular, formal meetings, appropriate feedback, guidance and support is provided. The Team Supervisor will work with the Manager and individual staff member.
- Professional Skills Development: Regularly meets with individual team members to address workflow and performance challenges and opportunities with an eye toward implementing continuous improvement.
- Performance Appraisal: Annual performance appraisals are conducted with staff participation to ensure an inclusive, and mutually comprehensive process.
- Workflow Management: Balancing available resources with changing daily work requirements is a critical component of this role. Works collaboratively with the other Team Supervisors and Manager to coordinate resources and work assignments to ensure that all facets of the operation are effectively and responsibly covered.
- Relationship Management: Works closely with other Team Supervisors and editorial staff to address specific issues, procedures and policy matters. The Team Supervisor also works with staff to help develop ideas and strategies that enhance the efficiencies of the workflow with an eye towards continuous improvement.
- Recruitment: Participates and collaborates throughout the recruitment, onboarding and training process. Identifying and selecting the strongest candidates as well as ensuring that new staff are integrated into a cohesive and supportive team environment are essential.
- Workflow and Associated Technology: Makes thoughtful recommendations concerning workflow changes and program development and testing; implements changes in consultation with Manager and assures associated documentation is created, vetted, and maintained on an ongoing basis.
- Workflow Support: Consistently performs routine and complex workflow tasks in support of the peer review process.

- Experience in Journal and Data Services is highly desirable
