This is an exciting opportunity for a technology-oriented librarian interested in putting their technical skills to work towards supporting the educational and teaching mission of the library at an inclusive and community-centered university.

The Emerging Technologies Librarian is a tenure-track faculty position (12 months) that works directly with students to help them develop digital fluency skills. This position supervises the library’s new Emerging Technologies Learning Lab, including directing student employees, and provides expertise in demonstrating how new hardware and software systems can be applied for use in academic research to augment subject matter inquiry. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will teach workshops and credit courses in digital scholarship and contemporary research methods, such as digital exhibits, video production, data visualizations, text analysis, interactive maps, and born-digital books. This position will work as a team member and act as a pathfinder for the Library in understanding and developing innovative technologies to achieve the organization’s mission. The Emerging Technologies Librarian will partner with library faculty and academic programs across NMSU to develop new and innovative instruction and resources for students. As a member of the library faculty, the Emerging Technologies Librarian’s role additionally includes building a record of scholarly and professional achievement to fulfill university requirements for promotion and tenure, and is responsible for achieving in the following areas:
  • Librarianship
  • Scholarship and Creative Activity
  • Outreach and Extension (when appropriate)
  • Service



Required Qualifications
  • Master of Library or Information Science Degree from an ALA-Accredited institution, or equivalent
  • 3-5 years library experience
  • Ability to work independently in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Experience with 2D or 3D digitization technology
  • Experience using or teaching one or more emerging technologies, such as
    • Geographic Information Systems
    • Electronics
    • Extended Reality technology (Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality)
    • Drone technology
    • 3D modeling
    • 3D printing
    • Digital Photography
    • Digital Video Production
  • Knowledge of one or more research or media production applications, such as
    • Adobe Creative Suite applications
    • Atlas.ti
    • ArcGIS
    • Blender
    • Gimp
    • Unity
    • AutoDesk applications
  • Proactive, quick learner, with a strong sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new technologies. Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications (optional)
  • Additional post-secondary degree
  • Background working with archives, museums, schools, or non-profit educational organizations
  • Experience with grant writing
