The Engineering Lab Technician II is responsible for the prep, set-up, take-down and day-to-day operations in one or more of the following areas: biomedical, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, biology, and any other STEM course with a lab component. What you need to know

Position Details: This is a full-time, hourly position
Machines or equipment used in the performance of essential duties:
-
15 hours: Welding equipment, Jet Engine, Gas Turbine, Small Gas & Diesel Engine.
-
15 hours: CNC Mill, CMM, Profile Projector, Manual Lathe, Manual Mill, & 3D printer
-
10 hours: Computer, Telephone, Calculator (office duties)
Required Education and Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM discipline
-
Two years of related experience working in an engineering or science laboratory, applying safety and precautionary standards
-
Experience in the operation or maintenance of scientific equipment
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Familiarity in an engineering/physics laboratory and shop setting including safety and precautions. Ability to read blueprint schematics and manuals
-
Knowledge of manual and automated equipment, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications
-
Ability to identify, assess, and solve problems. Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others
-
Ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural population. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
-
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Travels to Texas A&M University-College Station, as needed

Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed

Preferred Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM discipline in addition to technical trade

Higher education experience in an engineering or science lab setting
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Global Harmonized System (GHS) guidelines
-
Knowledge of and ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and other hazardous property reference materials

Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills
-
Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, and internet research skills. Proven experience as a machinist

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety

Ability to use precision tools to take accurate measurements

Ability to select appropriate machine and settings for a given task

Ability to operate and maintain machinery

Responsibilities:
-
Laboratory Program Assistance - Assists in the coordination of laboratory operations. Assists Technical Laboratory Coordinator and faculty in organizing logistics of weekly lab activities to ensure that instructional materials and lab experiments are available as needed. Assists laboratory instructors during regularly scheduled labs or as needed. Assists laboratory set up and tear down, this includes up to preparing solutions, dispensing chemicals, disposing of waste, maintains and selecting appropriate lab equipment. Serves as point of contact for laboratory needs. Assists with safety inspections. Researches and recommends changes to existing engineering laboratory experiments, and equipment as needed or as requested by faculty. Assists with proposal development for various laboratory experiments. Maintains safe and clean laboratory spaces.

Administrative Support - Assists in purchasing necessary materials for laboratory needs while tracking and monitoring laboratory budget. Creates, establishes, and maintains laboratory files, databases and inventory. Participates in staff and related engineering meetings.

Supply and Equipment Maintenance - Supports maintenance of equipment and machines. Operates scientific, engineering and laboratory equipment. This includes engineering, physics and shop machines. Works with facilities with on equipment repairs. Notifies proper personnel for warranty maintenance and major non-warranty repairs. Helps to assure functionality of tools and equipment. Provides preventative maintenance. Performs other duties as assigned.
