The City of Cape Girardeau, Engineering Division currently has an opening for an Engineering Technician. This position is responsible for assisting in project management of private development; assisting in designing capital improvement projects; preparing maps and plans; and providing assistance to the general public and other city departments. Communicates with other city departments and the public to provide technical information, acquires state and federal construction permits for various projects, assists developers, builders, and contractors by providing street, water, and sewer technical information. Assists the public by providing dimensions for street right-of-way and utility easements, assists the city sewer and storm water departments, researches city and county records for current ownership and tax-billed projects, and conducts traffic studies.

Qualified candidate should have knowledge of civil engineering technical items. Skill in reading and understanding construction plans, plats, engineering plans and specifications. Applicant must have High School graduate or equivalent with knowledge of AutoCAD. Valid Missouri driver’s license required. Preference may be given to those candidates with a B.S. in Drafting Technology or related field or one year of experience.
