The Opportunity
The Executive Director (ED), Social Sciences role at Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU’s) online Global Campus (GC) provides strategic, operational, and cultural leadership for the social sciences programs by ensuring the delivery of high-quality, healthy programs and learning experiences; learner-focused support; engaged faculty; and a high-functioning team prepared to work on institutional and academic programs priorities. This leadership includes employing a collaborative and inclusive approach to ensure that the institution’s vision, mission, and strategic goals, and the requirements of this role, are met. As the ED, you understand how to implement disciplined change within a team, support continuous improvement through optimization, and lead a team toward metric and financial results.
You will also ensure alignment with the mission, goals, and priorities of the university. There will also be the opportunity for interdepartmental and university-wide collaboration with teams including Academic Quality, Accreditation, and Support; Academic Resources and Technology; Learning Science and Assessment; Marketing; Office of Product and Program Innovation; Student Experience; University Partnerships; and University Campus. You are someone well-versed in and connected to the national conversation regarding higher education, particularly around learner outcomes, social sciences education, workforce needs, and different learning modalities such as competency-based education. To be successful, you can manage in the present and shape strategic direction as a future-focused leader. Your roll will also involve analyzing data that informs decision-making to support successful social sciences programs. You should exude passion for our learners’, faculty, and employees’ success, and must be committed to challenging the status quo for continued improvement and progress. Lastly, you are someone who demonstrates a strong commitment to integrity and ethics, and embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion.
As the ED of Social Sciences, you serve a diverse team of academic staff, which may include Senior Associate Deans, Associate Deans, Global Campus Faculty, and adjunct faculty.
This position is remote and reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Programs at Global Campus.
You'll Get To:
- Set vision, strategic direction, and priorities for the social sciences programs’ portfolio.
- Understand the business of higher education and the impact of decisions on resources, competitive position, and market position.
- Drive efficiency toward operational excellence and accountability for the social sciences academic team.
- Work collaboratively with other executive directors, administrators, and deans to achieve GC’s goals and objectives.
- Promote communication among stakeholders with an emphasis on communication across business units to include University Campus.
- Support efforts across academic administration related to core academic functions which may include policy and procedure development, academic governance, accreditation support, learner support, and faculty quality.
- Lead programmatic activities which ensure that high-quality programs are developed to support learning and effectively allow graduates to achieve the stated program, course, and employment outcomes.
- Oversee the quality and integrity of social sciences programs to ensure alignment with and accreditation/regulatory compliance to NECHE and professional industry standards.
- Assist with rapidly resolving academic grievances or learner issues.
- Develop and implement initiatives that improve learner satisfaction and engagement, the learner experience, and the learning process, understanding that these are major drivers of success and retention.
- Lead and support efforts to ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion are core principles within the social sciences staff, faculty, programs, and learning experiences.
- Support the professional development opportunities for faculty and staff to ensure ongoing effectiveness in those roles and prepare them for future roles.
- Bring people and teams together toward a culture of shared purpose and success.
- Oversee and coordinate special projects as assigned.
- Maintain a national presence within higher education.

What we're Looking For:
- Doctorate in Social Sciences or a related field
- 3+ years of higher education administrative experience
- Experience within online education at a large scale, including a variety of faculty and course design models, learner experience development, and faculty management.
