Make a difference in a young person’s life! We are seeking a Student Externship/Career Readiness Coordinator at the Joliet Job Corps Center in Illinois. Job Corps is a federally funded, residential vocational training program for socioeconomically disadvantaged youth aged 16-24, with over 120 locations across the U.S. (www.JobCorps.gov). This position coordinates and administers the Center’s work-based learning (WBL) program to ensure all students participate in hands-on, trade-related technical training in authentic work environments to improve employability skills.

Summary of Essential Functions
- Engage with the community to develop strong employer partner networks to serve as Work-Based learning hosts and maintain positive relations.
- Collaborate with the outreach team to promote a positive image of the program and solicit community members for participation on the Center’s workforce council.
- Establish Work-Based learning agreements with employers and regularly visit WBL sites to ensure quality training in a safe environment.
- Provide transportation and support services to assist students in meeting Work-Based learning assignments, monitor attendance, and coordinate regular evaluations by Work-Based learning site supervisors.
- Coordinate and administer the Center’s work readiness program and curriculum to ensure students projected for graduation are adequately prepared with job search techniques and have been assisted to remediate barriers to workforce entry.
- Engage with students via scheduled classes throughout their enrollment to progressively assist them in acquiring workplace readiness skills.
- Provide an initial introduction to work readiness for new students during the orientation period and conduct an initial transition needs assessment.
- Assist projected graduates to assemble a portfolio of documents necessary for job search and for obtaining employment including resume, licenses, credentials, and documentation of accomplishments.
- Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property and adhere to safety practices.
- Utilize information systems and handle student data in strict adherence to Job Corps and Strategix policies to protect student’s personally identifiable information (PII) and reduce network security threats.

Qualifications
Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in social services, business, marketing, or related field and one year’s experience working with disadvantaged youth, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, presentation, and public speaking skills. Information technology proficiency including MS Office. A valid driver's license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required. This is a driving position.
Preferred
Teaching or training and facilitation experience is strongly preferred.
