Position Summary

The Program Services Aide functions as a healthcare advocate performing various patient care activities including social service coordination in community hospitals, clinics, schools, communities, and homes. The incumbent will be working with patients from Spanish speaking communities. He/she is responsible for providing outreach, resources, education, and social support in Spanish-based community settings as outlined in specific programs. This position will require on-site attendance in clinics, hospitals, and the Cancer Center and may include working in the evenings and weekends. We are seeking to fill 2 positions for Program Services Aide.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Host, participate, coordinate, and sponsor Spanish-based community functions to help raise awareness of cancer screening services to meet the project goals.
  • Provide Spanish-based educational information and outreach regarding programs, associated requirements, and other opportunities to community residents and the general public. Assist them with making decisions about healthy lifestyles and healthcare needs.
  • Serve as a resource person for Spanish speaking participants in the program; develop referral relationships with healthcare providers and other community-based service providers.
  • Conduct community-based visits to help identify and recruit potential new Spanish speaking patients and potential community partners.
  • Perform home visits as needed for the purpose of providing education, support, home health assessments, obtaining and completing consents, follow-up on provider referrals, and assisting Spanish-speaking families in addressing barriers to health care access.
  • Work with staff and Spanish-speaking community residents to assess their community for strengths, problems, and concerns relative to healthcare (e.g. conducting surveys, interviewing, etc.).
  • Assess, identify, and assist in establishing services needed within the community.
  • Assist Spanish-speaking patients with the health marketplace enrollment process.
  • Schedule patient appointments via the practice management system or other system as indicated.
  • Liaison between the institution or agency and the Spanish-speaking individuals served; refer patients to support services when needed and follow up on referrals; and assist participants in utilizing referral services.
  • Assist in the development of resource materials and the preparation and maintenance of records and data.
  • Complete all required reports to document activities and provide data to measure impact.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects and assignments as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications


  • Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • college course work in behavioral science, social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • work experience that provided a knowledge of human behavior by having demonstrated through public contact the ability to cope with a variety of people, (such as customer service, salesperson, or receptionist).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Experience working with Spanish speaking populations.
  • Experience using and/or inputting data into REDCap preferred.
