Facilities & Custodial General Laborer - TEMPORARY Job at Humane Society Pikes Peak Region

** 32 hour/week position ** Temporary **
Assists Facilities Technicians, Custodians and Facilities Manager with repair and maintenance of the facility, grounds, and equipment of the Humane Society of The Pikes Peak Region and assigned departments. Assists with the physical set-up and breakdown of fundraising events and other functions. Assists with custodial duties when necessary. Keeps an open communication line to Facilities Manager. Performs work in a safe manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance / Facilities
- Area and job site clean up.
- Moving of equipment / supplies as directed.
- Construct / dismantle items as directed.
- Assists maintain the interior and exterior working order, cleanliness, and physical appearance of HSPPR facilities, including but not limited to; repairs, painting, window washing, waste removal, and parking lots.
- Assists with maintaining all grounds, including landscaping, sprinkler system, and parking lot.
- Follows established policies, procedures, practices, and operational equipment instructions.
- Assists with routine custodial cleaning, upkeep, and HSPPR Colorado Springs campus facilities maintenance to include public areas, staff areas, restrooms, and external areas.
Customer Service
- Ensures quality service is provided to both people and animal clients.
- Responds to requests for assistance and repairs promptly to ensure quality client service and effective operations.
- Assists HSPPR staff in situations requiring immediate problem-solving. Promotes good public relations under HSPPR practices; when appropriate, takes control of situations that could potentially damage the professional image of the Society.
- Represents HSPPR professionally and courteously at all times.
- Provides quality service to clients, volunteers, and employees, recognizing their contributions to the success of HSPPR.

Safety
- Assists with facility security systems, fire alarm systems, and upkeep of fire extinguishers, fire department visits, and other inspections as required.
- Follows OSHA regulations for all projects, equipment operation, and chemical usage, including labeling, storage, disposal, and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Ensure a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines and modeling safe work practices.
- Follows all safety guidelines. Takes immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk.
Material and Equipment Directly Used
- May operate vehicles during routine and emergency operations under the varying road, weather, and lighting conditions.
- Various computers with Windows software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and animal shelter software such as Chameleon.
- Various office equipment such as faxes, telephones, printers, scanners, and copy machines.
- Use and maintain assigned equipment, including but not limited to; power and hand tools, construction equipment, buffers, scrubbers, extractors, high-pressure washers, high-speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning, general maintenance, and repairs of the facility.
- Supplies and chemicals used in the animal shelter and facility repairs, maintenance, and cleaning.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as but not limited to ear protection, isolation gowns, isolation booties, face masks, safety glasses, and gloves.
Physical Demands
- Regularly sits at a computer station, often in a shared office environment.
- The employee must regularly lift and move 60 or more pounds of moving weight and occasionally lift and move up to 40 or more pounds of moving weight.
- May be occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, hear, and frequently stand and walk.
- May be expected to be on feet for extended periods.
- Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available.
- Must be able to use both hands and arms to grip, pull, and push utilizing equipment and safety equipment used to repair, maintain, and clean facilities.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Is regularly exposed to noise and potential exposure to hazardous weather conditions.
- Exposure to cleaning supplies and other substances containing toxic or caustic chemicals.
Schedule Requirements
A schedule will include weekend and holiday work.
Education/Experience Necessary
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent preferred
- Ability to follow directions, problem solve and use good judgement
- Good verbal and written communication skills required
- Experience with general labor tasks (paid or unpaid) required
- Valid Colorado Driver's License and insurable driving record
