The Specialist ensures our facilities are in top shape, which will include our brand-new, sustainably built 61,219 sq. ft. headquarters facility opening in Johnston in 2024.
FACILITY OPERATION SPECIALIST
With 13 donor centers and an operation spanning 3 states, the maintenance and upkeep of LifeServe facilities is vital to our success as the 12th largest supplier of blood products in the nation. That’s where you could be the glue! As a Facility Operation Specialist with LifeServe, you will be responsible for providing property inspections and site audits for facilities located in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. You will perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed including, but not limited to painting, drywall repair, light plumbing, and electrical troubleshooting. In this role, you will be called to assess if you, or the team, can handle a repair, or if there is a need to reach out to a contractor. As such, the Facility Operation Specialist serves as a liaison between Purchasing, Facilities, internal supervisors or contacts, property management companies and outside contractors ensuring smooth day-to-day functions at each location.
The ideal candidate would have prior purchasing experience; however, we are willing to train someone who is interested in developing their purchasing knowledge. The Facility Operation Specialist will need to participate in after-hours, on-call rotation for the department, where you would be asked to carry the on-call phone for 7 days and then have 3-4 weeks off on-call responsibilities afterward.

Typical hours worked will fall within core business hours of 8a-5p Monday through Friday
COMPENSATION
Anticipated starting range between $22-$26/hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure all LifeServe Blood Center locations are audit ready at all times by working cooperatively with the Donor Services lead at each site to:
- Complete facility preventive maintenance checklist
- Ensure work orders are completed timely
- Ensure janitorial crews are meeting the daily tasks as assigned and working to ensure issues are corrected immediately
- Coordinate/schedule preventative maintenance in conjunction with property management company
- Review service contracts yearly ensuring all equipment is covered timely and within the facility budget
- Oversee the testing of building security systems and prepare for emergencies by creating action plans
- Work with the Facilities Director on the planning of future building space and movement of fixed sites
- Work with service contractors/vendors on building issues ensuring repairs are made timely and in order with the facility budget
- Work with the Fleet & Logistics Specialist on special projects as assigned by the Director
PURCHASING:
- Work closely with the Buyer to maintain site inventory levels at an appropriate level for collections and laboratory supplies
- In the absence of the Buyer, identify supply needs, create purchase orders, and place orders with vendors for all LifeServe Blood Center locations
- Work closely with the Supply Coordinator to address accurate receipt and distribution of supplies and equipment ordered
- Arrange for the return of damaged or defective supplies and equipment for Des Moines and all sites supported by the Des Moines warehouse
- Participate in monthly inventory of supplies
- Maintain confidentiality of LifeServe Blood Center donor, employee, financial and proprietary records, and information at all times
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively participate in weekly Facilities, Purchasing and Fleet team meetings
- Act as backup Supply Coordinator and Fleet & Logistics Specialist, as needed
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE CONSIDERED
- Associate's degree in business, business management or related field required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two years facility management and/or purchasing experience preferred.
- Current driver’s license and motor vehicle report meeting insurability requirements.
