The Family Development Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing consistent, creative, quality content, publications and related PR/marketing materials for the Family Development program as well as the overall Association when needed. The position is responsible for the implementation of coordinated public relations, marketing, & mass media efforts for the Family Development area. The Communications Coordinator will provide input to planning and strategic communications/marketing efforts and will act as a liaison to media contacts. The individual will update and maintain CCE Oneida’s website and social media platforms in a consistent & timely manner. This position is also responsible for distributing press releases for the program. The Communications Coordinator will market programs appropriately and create marketing materials for the Family Development Program with guidance from supervisor and Family Development Issue Leader.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Marketing, Communications or related field or Equivalent Education. GED/High School Diploma plus 1-year transferrable program/functional experience may substitute for an Associate’s Degree.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft products, database, and internet software. Proficiency with social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through social media, oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools.
  • Ability to effectively provide input into marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated marketing abilities for effective branding and communications.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and maintain satisfactory working relationships with others including the public. Ability to work independently, organize workload, handle administrative detail, work under pressure and establish priorities according to Association requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude and appearance. Maintain a positive public image of CCE when dealing with the media, public, clients, staff, volunteers and committee members.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Administrative Direction – 5%
  • Assist in planning effective strategic external and internal communication efforts.
  • Plan mass media efforts related to all program areas.
  • Utilize good marketing strategies in the generation of an appropriate public image and support Association staff in attaining and promoting that image.
  • Provide input to the planning of the marketing budget.
  • Make recommendations to supervisor for strengthening and improving marketing plans.
  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in planning for communication and marketing efforts related to program.
  • Assist in planning events such as Recognition Dinner, conferences, etc.
Administrative Management – 30%
  • May provide moderately complex administrative management of established educational program goals as it relates to communication and/or marketing.
  • Provide substantial moderately complex administrative tasks to guide the implementation of communications strategies, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies and Federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.).
  • Provide guidance to volunteers and co-workers, including those performing similar work.
  • Ensure that the website and social media outlets contain current and timely news and information.
  • Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise within the marketing and communications area utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Administrative Coordination/Operation – 60%
  • Provide moderately complex administrative tasks in implementing communication and marketing plans including, Annual Reports, Newsletters, Legislative Updates, Social Media communications (Facebook, Twitter, Website, etc.), press releases, public relations and event marketing and fund-raising marketing/communications.
  • Utilize local media formats to market/promote and enhance program area activities.
  • Create and distribute press releases for Family Development Program.
  • Support educator staff with preparation of brochures and fliers with supervisor guidance.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and program staff to create and distribute CCE’s annualreport and other key marketing and reporting documents.
  • Represent the Family Development Program and the Association at community events and meetings.
  • Obtain quotes for advertising services from various media outlets and procure quotes for marketing material.
  • Under guidance of supervisor, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing and communications.
  • Coordinate mass mailings and email distributions.
  • Provide information as requested to assist with preparation of reports, success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committee, Board and others.
  • Maintain the website as well as all social media platforms.
  • In coordination with staff, respond to general requests for information about the Family Development program activities and grants in the community.
  • Research, implement, and evaluate new forms of outreach and assistance to connect to the community.
  • May provide support to the Family Development Issue Leader and supervisor with communications related to grant and funding applications.
Professional Improvement – 5%
  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
  • Attend and participate in CCE monthly Systems Communicators meetings as well as in-house communications meetings.
Position Details
This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $21.50/hr. The Family Development Communications Coordinator will work on-site at the CCE Oneida office in Oriskany, NY. This position does not support remote work.
