1. PRIMARY PURPOSE
This technician will provide field service support focused on Denver Eagle’s implementation of Wabtec’s Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) and overall Positive Train Control (PTC) program. The FST will be the primary Wabtec technical interface at the Denver Eagle site and provide on-site and remote support to customer maintenance personnel and operations teams, and carry out the following primary duties.
2. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Act as the primary technical interface between Wabtec business units and Customer management and crews involved in Denver Eagle On-Board maintenance, including I-ETMS, Automatic Train Control (ATC), and supporting subcomponents.
  • Develop product knowledge required to properly install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot Denver Eagle On-Board systems, including interfaces to airbrake, recording and locomotive systems.
  • Guide and assist Customer employees and craft testing, troubleshooting and operation of the Denver Eagle On-Board systems, as required
  • Communicate technical and operational details to stakeholders in PTC systems, in both Customer and Wabtec organizations
  • The FST will be located on Customer property in Denver, CO.
  • Work primarily first shift on Customer property; FST must be flexible to assist Customer at any time, by phone or on site as required, for necessary support of system troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Travel domestically, on occasion, for Denver Eagle On-Board installation and support, integration testing, training, etc., as directed by the Customer or Wabtec
  • Other duties and assignments as directed by Wabtec management
  • Assist Customer with development of short term action plans and long term reliability initiatives
  • Interpret schematics and drawings
  • Work with a minimum amount of supervision
  • Computer hardware and software system knowledge required
3. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Provide technical support, as required, for other Wabtec products, such as electronic air brakes, video recording systems, event recorders, etc., as applicable
4. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum education, job experience, certifications, skills, knowledge and abilities that incumbent must typically have to perform the essential functions of the job acceptably with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Bachelors in Engineering, Associate’s Degree in Electronics or Computer Technology, or technical related experience or training in the industry
  • Three years of experience with Positive Train Control, or one year of experience with I-ETMS
  • Knowledge of locomotive operation, electronics, and control systems and/or railroad experience preferred, though not required
  • Experience with pneumatic systems; field installation and testing of electronics; software installation, configuration and testing; and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret and explain technical documents such as engineering drawings and specifications, test procedures, and electrical schematics required
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical, electronic, software, and complex system issues
  • Field service/field engineering experience a plus
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical installation techniques and principles
  • Knowledge of Lean tools, principles and activities.
  • Experience developing and improving business processes
  • Experience and knowledge of basic statistical analysis and reliability tools
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; customer facing experience preferred
  • Must be able to work independently, in geographically dispersed locations
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, SQL, and Ruby a plus
Specialized equipment used in this job
  • Digital Volt Meters, Frequency Counters, Spectrum Analyzers and all appropriate troubleshooting general purpose equipment.
  • Oscilloscope and protocol analyzers, as applicable
Other skills and qualifications
  • Analyze processes and workflow. Suggest and implement continuous improvement within the organization
  • Technical writing skills required for internal and external documentation. Ability to communicate on a technical level with engineers, customers, railroad craft personnel and co-workers.
  • Ability to apply commonsense and logical progression to problem solving challenges.
  • Ability to comprehend instructions, specifications, and policies communicated in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to make independent decisions quickly

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between $25.00 - $35.00. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. While this position is remote, it may include occasional work at a Wabtec office/site or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager.
