The Pratt & Whitney Global Security Organization is responsible for the development and implementation of the company’s global security risk management strategy and associated programs, serves as the focal point for security across the organization and the site fire and life safety of our employees and plants. This position is accountable to serve as the recognized senior leader for the operations of fire and life safety for the Pratt & Whitney location in East Hartford, Ct. Responsible for delivering expertise for the oversight and continuous improvement of the overall fire and life program in support of safeguarding the company’s critical assets – people, sites, products, operations, and reputation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Clear daily responsibility to direct, coordinate and manage fire & life safety operations to ensure the protection of assets and self-initiate course of actions necessary to develop timely mitigation plans
  • Develop and deliver directly and in other instances delivers as a process partner preventative, protective, and response programs to protect against financial loss, trade secret loss, sabotage, crimes against persons, threats, emergencies, and other security related outcomes that may impact profitability and brand
  • Actively monitor fire/life safety operational risks and trends to anticipate and identify risks, threats and vulnerabilities advising the Security leadership, the Director of Global Security and other appropriate site executive leadership with reliable, timely, and complete information to mitigate and minimize incidents impacting company critical assets.
  • Maintain an active view of the operational landscape conducting risk assessments and threat analysis with subsequent defined courses of action based upon business criticality
  • Lead reporting staff aligned through line accountability in the design, development and implementation of the global fire & life safety programs at the location to reduce risks and respond when incidents occur. Continually develop the expertise of the organization inclusive of succession planning.
  • Across operating units, advise on the implementation and maintenance of all fire & life safety related company policies, standards, guidelines, processes, procedures, and plans. Ensure coordination with relevant stakeholders and multi-disciplinary members to enforce compliance with policies and standards to help ensure consistent application of fire & life safety programming across the campus
  • Adapt comprehensive fire & life safety learning curriculum and awareness program for appropriate delivery
  • Deliver risk appropriate briefings, in depth reporting, or advisories to business leadership and project teams based on an analysis fire & life safety risks
  • Coordinates with quality and internal controls organizations to ensure fire & life safety processes at the facility level are assessed and achievable remediation plan established
  • Maintain daily and other periodic measurements for efficient and effective program delivery
  • Ensure all site fire & life safety related technologies and system requirements are operable for proactive and reactive programming
  • Regularly assess the program to identify gaps or opportunities in standard work within the program or across interdependencies with the multi-disciplinary team partners to define alternative approaches to maintain a positive employee work experience
  • Serve as the technical expert on internal and external committees and projects for the location based needs inclusive of business acquisitions, divestitures, and new product/service offerings to align fire & life safety offerings to the business strategy
  • Liaise between the organization and fire & life safety specific RTX, other business units, and industry forums to have an in-depth understanding of fire & life safety operations and ensure the delivery of a comprehensive industry standard program offering inclusive of a well-developed network of area public and private sector counterparts.
  • Active member in the Pratt & Whitney Crisis Management Program and lead in the development, training, and implementation fire & life safety related emergency management processes at the location site in conjunction with EH&S compliance programming and site security leadership.
  • Participate in program reviews budget/schedule prioritization.
  • Active member in site emergency management team in the planning, updating of site response plans. Conduct after action reviews at all levels.
  • Team lead on the site facility emergency planning committee, working with management and local union leadership.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience
  • Have Fire officer and working knowledge of fire inspector / marshal requirements.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing corporate fire & life safety programs
  • Need to be familiar with NFPA recommendations and OSHA regulations.
  • Willingness to be available 24/7/365.
  • Experience working with bargaining agreements.
  • Knowledge of modern developments in the field of firefighting and related activities
  • US Citizenship required due to government contract
