Flight Coordinator Job at LightHawk

LightHawk Remote

Position Title: Flight Coordinator – Saving the environment one flight at a time.

Company Introduction: LightHawk is a 40+-year-old non-profit conservation organization that uses the power of flight to advance conservation and environmental causes across North America. Our employees identify significant conservation priorities that can be advanced by the use of aviation and work with partners who share those priorities. Together we design and execute programs that utilize LightHawk’s network of 300 Volunteer Pilots and their aircraft to accomplish the desired conservation outcomes. Missions included land, water and coastal monitoring, wildlife species transport and tracking, scientific data collection, photo and video documentation and education. LightHawk arranges over 200+ flights a year with 400 different conservation partners.

Why this role matters to our organization: LightHawk’s Flight Coordinators are at the heart of LightHawk’s mission. As the primary contact between our conservation partners and our Volunteer Pilot corps, Flight Coordinators assist partners with the logistics of the mission and assign appropriate Volunteer Pilots to execute. Flight Coordinators build personal relationships with partners and pilots who come to trust the judgement and expertise of the Coordinator. The Coordinators also become experts on the many conservation issues LightHawk deals with, reinforcing their ability to help our partners be more effective and our pilots to lower the risk involved in flying the missions.

Job Description: Flight Coordinators are critical members of LightHawk’s Program Team.

· They work closely with the other team members to arrange and attend to the many details that make a safe and effective mission.

· The position is 100% remote.

· The individual hired must have interpersonal and communication skills that translate over video and other conferencing means.

· A proactive, “can-do” attitude, attention to detail, and good follow-through are essential to be successful.

Typical Day of a Flight Coordinator at LightHawk

The Flight Coordinator assists conservation partners with setting up the flights and assures safety minimums are observed and reasonable conservation outcomes will result from the mission. They then recruit and assign Volunteer Pilots for the flight. After getting the basic logistics planned and a Volunteer Pilot assigned, the Flight Coordinator ensures all the details and variables are in order to enable a safe and successful flight. Often the Coordinator will map out the preliminary flight route via ForeFlight to assist the pilot in their planning. As the time of the flight approaches, Flight Coordinators are the point person for communication between partners, pilots and passengers regarding flight updates, weather, or mechanical delays. Once the mission begins, the Coordinator monitors the flight’s progress and proactively gathers post-flight information ensuring accurate data entry.

Candidate Requirements: A candidate for the Flight Coordinator position must have a strong interest in LightHawk’s mission and a demonstrated passion for both the environment and aviation. Above all, the candidate needs to work well in a remote team setting, be comfortable in a fast-paced working environment, and understand the importance of paying attention to detail.
