SUMMARY: Position reports to Front Desk Supervisor with input from the Clinical Supervisor, the assigned Physician, and the Billing Supervisor. The Patient Care Advocate is responsible for guiding patients and ensuring they have a positive office experience by contributing to the smooth delivery of excellent patient care, making sure all procedures from check-in to check-out run smoothly and efficiently and providing excellent customer service. Develops appropriate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues as a team member providing the highest quality patient care and contributes toward the attainment of important goals for the patient and the practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Greet Patients in a friendly and supportive manner and treat them with dignity and respect
Comply with all HIPAA regulations
Complete Check-in and check-out process effectively and efficiently
Responsibly schedule all patient appointments
Keep work area clean and supplied
Scan any necessary items correctly and efficiently
Verify all patient information when patient arrives for appointment; make changes in computer as needed.
Responsible for rescheduling patients as necessary
Responsible for verifying insurance eligibility and makes any necessary corrections in the system
Contact patients regarding any discrepancies or ineligibilities or noncontract insurances
Responsible for checking what is needed in EMR for pre-registration (ids, HIPAA, registration forms, insurance cards)
Collect any payment, document properly in system, on transaction log, and balance batch.
Mention the Patient Portal and assist in registering if patient interested
Schedule any follow up or routine appointments as directed by providers or protocol
Assist Provider in dispensing the proper paperwork to the patient at the end of the visit
Take direction from the providers if needed to assist them with non-clinical duties
Convey any problems as soon as possible to appropriate staff
Photocopy and/or fax materials as required
Participate in staff meetings; providing updates and education on EMR related matters
Willingness to be cross trained in other front desk positions
Special projects as assigned.
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

High School graduate or GED
Knowledge of communication equipment and procedures
Ability to use a computer and various software applications
Ability to remain calm in an emergent or confrontational situation
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to speak clearly and concisely face-to-face and over the phone
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to comply with all PPA policies and procedures

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and other office equipment.
Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate messages, information, reports and forms.
