Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) will play a significant leadership role in setting the vision and strategy for Old Tucson. The position will be involved in the recruitment of staff and working with the American Heritage Railways (AHR) Senior Leadership team to direct and manage all business activities and work to develop and implement effective business strategies and programs for the company that align with AHR practices. In partnership with AHR leadership, the GM will oversee the allocating of budget resources, management of operational costs, handle and manage company insurance coverage with a third-party broker and AHR VP, identify business opportunities, and monitor financial activities. The GM should account for all business activities, support staff development, enhance efficiency, drive sales and improve revenue, maintain relationships with clients, enhance the organizations image, and meet overall growth objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct and control activities to ensure the company’s goals and objectives are reached and consistent with established policies and procedures
- Budgeting and allocation of finances amongst different departments.
- Work with the onsite Accounting and parent company Accounting teams to create suggested budget plans.
- Review monthly finances, suggest departmental budget changes if required and communicate financial information to corporate leadership to assist in proactive and timely decision making.
- Oversee key hiring and talent development programs with the assistance of the onsite HR and corporate HR team
- Evaluate and propose to corporate leadership key investments in equipment, infrastructure, and talent
- Communicate strategy and results to the employees
- Report key results to corporate officers
- Engage with corporate officers in broader organizational strategic planning
- Provide direct management of key managers and their respective departments
- Responsible for maintaining budgets and optimizing expenses
- Provides thoughtful solutions to potential business challenges (i.e. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business, etc.)
- Maintain project timelines to ensure tasks are accomplished in a timely manner
- Prepare reports to appraise corporate leadership about the functioning of the company.
- Work with AHR, its subsidiaries, and OTE department managers on developing events and activities from initial concept, budgets, implementation, and through completion.
- Lead legal issues and contracts between OTE and third parties
- Ensure safety, training, and proper procedures are enforced
- Work with Film and production companies for onsite productions
- Other Duties as assigned.
Education, Skill & Work Experience Requirements
- Degree in Business Management or related field, Masters in Business Administration, preferred
- Proven experience in Event Management
- Deep knowledge of tourism and/or amusement park operation
- Strong decision-making capabilities
- Above-average communication, collaboration, and delegation skills
- Proven ability to develop and maintain financial plans
- Ability to motivate and lead people to achieve desired results
Work Environment:
- Majority of time spent in an old west movie studio and themed event park in Tucson, AZ
- Occasional travel to Durango, CO
- Regularly onsite for weekend events and activities
