Description of Work Unit
The Campus Planning work unit exists to provide an integrated, holistic, inclusive, and strategic outline for the long-term direction of CSU’s physical and built environment, which aligns with and enhances the mission, vision, and goals of Colorado State University. It ensures the highest and best use of the built environment and land in a sustainable and resilient manner to meet CSU’s mission. This includes but is not limited to myriad technical and A/E elements such as land use, program and development planning strategy, spatial utilization, mapping, archiving , etc amongst others.

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Position Summary
This work unit exists to provide professional mapping system services and Information Management for the planning and analysis of the University’s assets.

GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, spatial databases, and personnel, designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all form of geographically referenced information.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Natural Resources, Agriculture, Economics, Urban Planning and Geographic Analysis or closely related field.
  • Two years of focused work experience as a GIS Manager/Analyst.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Good written, verbal and listening skills; Ability to communicate to a broad audience that may be outside of occupational discipline.
  • GIS experience in a campus or higher Ed environment
  • Experience working with Architectural/Engineering groups such as planning, design and construction.

Essential Duties

Job Duty Category
Designs and implements GIS projects for effective land use planning, real estate and other University assets.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Utilizes GIS principles and theory.
  • Creates and is responsible for upkeep of metadata as it pertains to outputs and data that the department curates.
  • Coordinates projects with internal and external groups, finding creative solution to answer problem posed by customers.
  • Reviews supplemental information for correctness and format.
  • Responsible for design and creation of geospatial relational database.
  • Identifies, compiles, and integrates data from numerous and varied sources; develops coding structures, and documentation procedures.
  • Completes spatial and statistical analysis of existing and potential resources and their users in support of planning efforts.
  • Designs output that are clear, understandable and delivers the intended message.
  • Produces reports and digital data for use by the unit and the University.
  • Coordinate with team members to resolve data conflicts and ensure data is congruent and accurate(as-built, GPS, etc.) as they are documented.

  • Provides input into the strategic plan.
  • Recommends upgrades to hardware and software.

  • Act as work leader for work study students by assigning projects, conducting training and reviewing completed work assignments in absence of supervisor.

Duty/Responsibility
  • Coordinates with CSU emergency response, plus city and county addressing partners to determine new addresses or to update existing addresses for CSU property.
  • Produces publication files for all map panels in the yearly Parking and Visitor Map.
  • Generates yearly reports of storm water imperviousness, stormwater billing allocations and utility assets for Facilities Management.
  • Supports the CSU Trees geodatabase for field data collection, mapping, and reporting needs.
  • Partakes and sits on committees as called upon.
  • Works as part of the Campus Planning team to coordinate and help on Master Planning, Space utilization, Archiving, mapping efforts as necessary for the team to work a a new and cohesive unit.
