The Knight Cancer Institute is complex program whose mission is to develop excellence in fundamental cancer research, facilitate the translation of research into improvements in patient care, and ultimately change cancer as we know it. This position oversees financial policies, procedures, reporting and analysis for grants in the Knight Cancer Institute under the supervision of Knight Cancer Institute (the Institute) Finance Director. Provides consolidated financial reports of grants for the management team. Prepares financial reports and projections for Principle Investigators for all accounts (grants, OHSU and Foundation funds and orgs and commitments) with analysis of variances including options for improving budget performance, correcting negative trends and recommending cost efficiencies. Processes financial transactions associated with purchasing and A/P and A/R. In addition, assist with the management of the grant transfer process for transferring labs. Provide review of awards, audit efforts and post award support for external departments. Provide training on all post-award activities. 2. Grant Financial Services – Manages grant financial services for the Institute. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Establish fiscal authority processes for grant accounts.
- Establishes a system to prepares monthly financial reports for Principle Investigators together with an executive summary for the Department Administrator. Certain reports include projections and forecasts. Recommend actions to mitigate negative trends.
- Under the direction of management prepares various analyses.
- Establish a system to ensure the following items are completed timely and correctly: Labor Distributions, grant closures, data entry, ledger reconciliation, variance reporting and investigating, maintenance of faculty funding profiles (current & pending funds), account & expense documentation, implementation of accounting procedures, anticipation and preparation of appropriate post-award paperwork (cost transfers, JEs, sub-award request forms, prior approval forms, accelerated spending forms, etc.), monitoring and resolving open POs and invoices on hold, anticipation and preparation of appropriate paperwork for new accounts.
- Includes working with appropriate offices at OHSU (OPAM, CFS, SOM Dean’s Office, A/P, Purchasing, etc.) to resolve issues.
- Serve as effort coordinator.
2. Management - Responsible for:
- Hiring, training, and managing grant financial staff for the Institute.
- Ensures that departmental policies and guidelines are followed.
- Ensures that staff are productive, efficient, and recognized through the use of appropriate and effective professional development and staff retention strategies.
- Ensures that staff are supported and are adequately cross-trained.
- Conducts staff evaluations, mentors, and provides counseling and disciplinary action if needed.
- Works with staff to identify and promote growth opportunities and professional development.
- Fosters collaboration and teambuilding.
- Communicate with stakeholders appropriately to ensure effective and successful customer service.
3. Training - Responsible for:
- Providing training for staff and other members of the Institute. Provides oral and written advice/recommendations to requisitioners, office staff, faculty, and lab personnel in financial matters including but not limited to OPAM, A/P, purchasing (includes p-card), Oracle and Dean’s Office and CFS policies and procedures.
4. Other duties as assigned.
