Division Overview
Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. Overview

The Hardware Design Engineer (FPGA Design) will be a part of the engineering team which develops and supports complex embedded hardware products in communications and protection for the electric utility market.

This position will work with a wide range of state-of-the-art circuits comprised of Field-Programmable-Gate-Arrays (FPGA) and interfacing with microprocessors, DSP’s, high-speed analog devices, communication interfaces, power actuators.

What You Will Do

  • FPGA Development: Perform all aspects of FPGA development work, including designing, coding, testing, and debugging FPGA designs, under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Interface with other cross-functional teams, such as software development, sales/marketing, and production, to ensure smooth coordination of development and support activities.
  • Circuit Design: Work with a wide range of state-of-the-art circuits, including interfacing with microprocessors, DSPs, high-speed analog devices, communication interfaces, and power actuators.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in FPGA design and embedded hardware technologies, and apply this knowledge to develop innovative solutions for communications and protection products.
  • Testing and Debugging: Perform thorough testing and debugging of FPGA designs to ensure optimal performance and reliability of the hardware products.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation for FPGA designs, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Collaboration and Support: Collaborate with senior team members and provide support as needed for various development and support activities, including troubleshooting and issue resolution.

What You Bring

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Strong background in FPGA design and embedded hardware development, as well as experience with microprocessors, DSPs, and high-speed analog devices.
  • Experience in VHDL coding, Verilog a plus.
  • Ability to understand and analyze schematic-capture design methods for PLD’s and FPGA’s.
  • Strong design documentation skills and experience using source code version controls and bug tracking tools.
  • Understanding of electronic circuit design, to analyze and troubleshoot component interfacing and overall device functionality.
  • Experience with test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators
