GE HealthCare is committed to lean as our operating system and part of our Operating Principles. While there are many dedicated lean leaders in our business operations, we will maintain a corporate Lean Office (LO).
The role of the Lean Office is to:
Coach, drive and lead lean behaviors, principles, and tools across GE HealthCare through leadership, training and standard development/deployment of lean tools.
Drive cultural transformation resulting in step-change in operational business metrics.
Develop GEHC leaders and associates in their lean development and journey
Support and develop Lean Leaders (lean experts) embedded in the GEHC businesses in their roles
The Lean Office will have (6) Senior Lean Leaders reporting to the LO leader. These Senior Lean Leaders will divide ownership for foundational lean tools (5S, standard work, kaizen, etc.) and growth tools critical to the business, including pricing/value selling, new product development and commercial excellence.
The Lean Office will also have a Learning & Development Leader and staff to actively support the lean development of GEHC associates across the organization through training, coaching and formal development programs.
Quickly stand up a high functioning Lean Office
- Recruit and onboard team of high performing players
- Identify best practices and learnings from GE Corporate KPO and Aerospace/Vernova teams and incorporate in GECH LO
- Define standard work within the Lean Office and with the larger lean organization across GEHC
Finalize structure and approach for Senior Lean Leaders, including tool ownership and engagement model with the businesses.
- Set the roadmap for buildout of GEHC lean competencies
- Manage Senior Lean Leader priorities, including allocation to Transformation Office and/or business initiatives
Through the L&D Leader, support and direct the development of the learning strategy for lean that we will deploy to the organization
- Define learning pathways that are role and lean-experience dependent
- Selection and transition of assets from the GE Kaizen Promotion Office
- Define the content and tools (e.g., online) used for training, coaching and self-study
- Define priority formal training curriculums and programs
- Deploy leader development programs based on lean assessment and coached development plans leveraging the in-business lean teams
Establish the GEHC Lean management cadence and priorities
- Along with the Lean & Transformation Leader, define the roadmap of lean priorities to support the maturity of the organization
- Institute standard work engagement with the segment/region/function lean leaders to support the deployment of those priorities
Support the lean mgmt. system used by GEHC CEO/CFO and leadership team
- Pete Arduini and team are redefining the mgmt. system they will use as leadership team including Operating Reviews and Hoshin Kanri
- The LO will support the defined mgmt. system activities along with the Corporate FP&A team
Qualifications/Requirements
Demonstrated lean experience; not required to be an expert, can be a demonstrated practitioner
- Understands and can articulate lean as an operating system, tools and culture
- A minimum of 10 years of experience leading in Manufacturing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Services, Digital, Commercial or P&L
- Experience successfully driving improvements in prior roles leveraging lean
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent required
- Strong management skills and demonstrated capability to influence
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills; strong business acumen
- Ability to effectively lead in a matrixed and virtual team environment, particularly working through the extended lean teams to accomplish objectives
