Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Public Health, Biological Sciences or related field and a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience dealing with patients in a communicable/infectious disease control or preventive health program involving interviewing, investigating, and/or educating patients, related contacts, or at-risk persons including a minimum of one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, oversee work performance and development of public health communicable disease program(s).

Typical Duties

Supervise disease intervention and prevention staff. Involves: Monitoring program activities and compilation of data for assessments and reports. Planning community activities to reduce disease incidence, and review case write-ups. Review medical records as necessary. Interview patients, contacts, physicians and possible sources of exposure. Oversee daily clinic and field activities and coverage. Oversee testing, counseling and outreach activities. Oversee educational activities including participation in health fairs. Draw blood and perform clinical tests as needed. Provide information to the Texas Department of State Health Services and other agencies to assist in investigations and prevention of further introduction and spread of disease. Educate and counsel individuals and groups on the epidemiology of reportable diseases, modes of transmission, and prevention. Counseling of at-risk-target populations. Perform all other related duties as assigned or required.

Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.
